This week, Bandai rolls out a new installment of Ghost Slayers Ayashi. Dark Horse unleashes the 27th volume of Bezerk. Del Ray has a one-two punch with new volumes of Tsubasa and Wallflower. Tokyopop dominates the week with releases that include Battle Vixens, Gakuen Alice, King of Hell, Rave Master, and Trinity Blood. Viz tries to pick up the slack with a new Bastard and Switch. Notable debuts include Double Trouble from Digital Manga, Orange from Tokyopop, and Pixie (also from Tokyopop). And no, there's no Lucky Star manga news. I just liked the picture.

napa-valley-wine-train.jpg

All aboard the manga train! Woo! Woo! First stop, Aurora Publishing, which releases new volumes of Hitohira and I Shall Never Return. Next stop is a quickie to Del Ray, who only has one book out. It's ok though, because Negima's always a nice site to see. Our next stop is Net Comics with a new Let Dai and two whole volumes of Totally Captivated! After that, we arrive at Viz, who brings us a new issue of Shojo Beat and a new volume of Vagabond. Our last stop is at the Yen Press station, where you'll find new entries of Kaze no Hana, World of Quest, and Y Square waiting for you. First time passengers on the manga train this week are Object Of Desire, Red Blinds The Foolish, and Adventures Of Young Det.

Manga-Nation: "Day Late And A Yen Short" Edition

sgt-frog-001.jpg

This seems like a pretty good week to be a manga fan. Just in time for the holidays, it seems like a bunch of publishers decided to roll out some of their triple A titles. Pantheon puts out the hardcover version of their controversial Bat-Manga! book. Running Press brings us volume three of the Mammoth Book Of Best New Manga. Seven Seas has new volumes of the Aoi House Omnibus, Dance In The Vampire Bund, and Tetragrammaton. Tokyopop tosses out new works of Anima, Gakuen Alice, and (most importantly) Sgt. Frog. Viz has new releases including Black Lagoon, Excel Saga (about time), and O Parts Hunter. Finally, Yen Press keeps subscribers happy with a new issue of Yen Plus. Notable debuts for this week include Blue Sheep Reverie from Digital Manga Publishing, Princess Ai Prism Of Midnight Dawn from Tokyopop, and Anima from Yaoi Press(not to be confused with the other Anima released by Tokyopop).

Manga-Nation: "All Viz! All The Time!" Edition

12901VizMedia_logo-lg.jpg

Wow, it's a good time to be a Viz fan this week. With the first of the month here, it seems they decided to release a good chunk of their best titles at once. These include new installments of Bleach, Gentlemens Alliance, Legend of Zelda, and Nora: Last Chronicle of Devildom. Not to be outdone, Del Ray unleashes new volumes of Mushishi, Suzuka, and Toto. If you're still doing some holiday shopping, Yaoi Press brings us their Yaoi Gold Bundle Set. Notable debuts for this week include St. Dragon Girl, a Bleach poster magazine, and the new year's first Shonen Jump.

Manga-Nation: November 25 Edition

School_Rumble_v01_ch01_p02-03.jpg

Well, it looks like another slow week. And-hey, is that a new volume of School Rumble? Will Harima and Tenma finally become a couple this time? I bet the author has been waiting for JUST the right volume to pair them up! *ahem* Anyway, Del Ray also brings us a new Tsubasa release. Meanwhile, Viz pumps out a few new manga installments which include Baby & Me, Dragon Drive, Eyeshield 21, and Law Of Ueki. Yaoi Press releases the Yaoi Pink Bundle Set, which contains 4 different yaoi titles. This week also sees a nice batch of debuts, including Freshmen Yaoi, Gankutsuou, and Yokaiden.

Manga Nation: Commitment Edition

wedding.jpg

We've got another slow week this time around, but I'm committed to keeping every PK reader updated on manga releases. COMMITTED I tells ya'! This week, Dark Horse unleashes a new volume of Trigun Maximum for those that need a good Vash the Stampede fix. Tokyopop's one and ONLY release this week is a new installment of Samurai Deeper Kyo. Udon tosses out a new volume of their clever update of "The Wiz," Dorothy of Oz. Viz doesn't have much in the way of manga releases, but they do have the Bleach Souls character book and a new issue of Shojo Beat to round out the release list. A few new manga debuts include Akihabara At Deep and the Far West Pocket Manga.

Manga Nation: November 11 Edition

HigurashiGroup1.jpg

You might notice this week lacks any big mainstream releases (not one Shonen Jump title in sight! Shock!), but there are several gems if you look hard enough. A new release for Land of Oz comes to us from Antarctic Press. Dark Horse unleashes a new Oh My Goddess on the unsuspecting otaku of North America. In the land of Tokyopop we see new volumes for Fruits Basket, GTO: The Early Years, and Vassalord. Neon Genesis Evangelion is Viz's only new manga entry for the week, while Yen Press continues to shine with more releases for Alice On Deadlines, Comic, and Moon Boy. Notable debuts include Kabuki, Vampires Portrait (Which is awesome, because I've been waiting on a manga about vampires forever now), and Higurashi When They Cry (one of my favorite Yen Plus titles. I seriously suggest checking it out!).

And Viz gives us giant portions with a few art books (Bleach, Dragon Ball, and Full Moon, respectively), along with regular releases of Fullmetal Alchemist and O Parts Hunter. Some new scrumptious debuts include a Code Geass novel from Bandai, Classical Medley from CMX, Papillon from Tokyopop, and Love Quest from Yen Press.

Manga-Nation: Slow News Day Edition

norm-47304337249ee-SpiderMan+(2002).jpeg

Much like Goblin's recent posting of comic new releases, this seems to be a slow week for manga. There's not really anything from Marvel or DC Viz or Tokyopop, but a few of the newer manga publishers will keep you knee deep in manga goodness. ...Or something like that.

This week, we have new volumes of Gantz, Land of Oz, and KageTora. New debuts include Authors Pet, One Night Lesson, and Passionate Theory (which all seem to be one-shots). Shonen Jump graces us with a new issue this week as well.

Manga-Nation: "OBJECTION!" Edition

PW-Objection01.jpg

After last week's manga boom, this week hits a bit of a slump. No matter though, as there are a few gems. The first being the newest installment of Fairy Tail. Yes, I'm going to be a little fanboy here and tell you to go buy it immediately. Other then that, Del Ray releases the much anticipated debut of Phoenix Wright to the manga world. We can only hope it's half as funny as the games. Another fresh title is Yen Press's Wild Animals. From the description, it sounds like a "based-on-a-true-story" tale (something we don't see a lot in manga) of what went on during China's Cultural Revolution.

Manga-Nation: "Hold On To Your Butts" Edition

afro-samurai.jpg

This week, we have a really nice selection of new releases. Wait, it's not the first of the month. WTF? Are Tokyopop and Viz sick or something? At any rate, it's nice to see some manga love spread out to the middle of the month. Aurora Publishing keeps us up to date with sweet yaoi action with new volumes of I Shall Never Return and Yakuza In Love. Seven Seas debuts the manga version of Afro Samurai at long last (here's hoping for an audio version read by Samuel L. himself). I'm cautiously optimistic about the first volume of the Castlevania manga (by Tokyopop) as well. Finally, Viz debuts the Death Note hardcover and a VizBig version of Vagabond.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Wonder Woman #1 - #5 OK, so a couple of unkind reviews from me of late. Does that mean I hate the whole New 52? No, not at all. Does it mean that I only enjoy the new characters? Definitely not. Case in point: Wonder Woman is one of my favorite books of the relaunch. I think it's very good, with strong writing, an excellent ambience and fantastic art. Read on for why this reboot is the first time I've ever subscribed to Wonder Woman!...
