A Warning About Watchmen!

watchmendvd.jpg

WARNING! For those of you who are true-blue fans of Watchmen, planning on getting your copy of the movie this weekend, you need to be aware of something.

When promoting the movie, director Zack Snyder explained that while Tales of the Black Freighter was being made separate from the film, the special edition would weave it back into the movie, as they had shot all the transitions.

The Director's Cut, Special Edition DVD/Blu-Ray that was released on Tuesday does not contain Tales of the Black Freighter.

I'm a little pissed about this. I opened my copy today to discover a coupon for $10 off the 'Ultimate' Special Edition being released in December, which will have the Tales of the Black Freighter added in. I can understand them having to do more work to release the film that way, but they could at least warn us ahead of time about this, instead of a surprise let-down when I open the case.

So, if you absolutely want the Ultimate Special Edition with the Tales of the Black Freighter, you've got some waiting to do. If however, you just want to see the film portion, feel free to purchase the discs that are out now.

Consider yourself warned.

they DID warn you about this. before the movie even came out in theaters, even. i distinctly remember them saying there would be a release of the standard and directors cuts in the summer, and a christmas release of a special edition with everything he wanted in it to begin with. this was said in many interviews. i was wondering if letting that be known up front would affect sales of the summer editions.

kyle's right, they did warn us about this. I knew about it long ago, and I'm waiting for the Ultimate Edition, skipping this Director's Cut. I think the Ultimate Edition is also supposed to contain the Watchmen Motion Comic.

Yeah this is definitely not something you should be surprised about. Read the back of the box. It clearly states that it's only like 24 minutes longer than the theatrical version.

While I didn't think it would include it (I bought Black Freighter when it came out), I thought it was a bit of a slap in the face to have a coupon for the uber-edition in the already-more-expensive director's cut .. I'll wait til December, see how much the special big huge stupid box set is, and decide then if I'll buy that and gift what I already have, or just keep these and not give them more of my money.

charming post. upright one unimportant where I quarrel with it. I am emailing you in detail.

punctilious post. due one detail where I contest with it. I am emailing you in detail.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
