Il Palazzo's Weekly Heroes Rant!

hero-greygrun.jpg

Welcome to Il Palazzo's Weekly Heroes Rant! Each week, I hope to inspire you to get off your couch (after watching Heroes), and jump into your computer chair (so you can read about Heroes). Beware though, I'll be recapping each episode as it airs, so spoilers will abound. Look forward to my often-wrong theories, erratic comments, and comparisons to the comics the show steals material from is inspired by. Hit the jump for my rant on this week's episode!

What's with the weird-ass camera angles at the breakfast table?

Who do you think "Rebel" is? A lot of people seem to think Micah (which would be AWESOME), but I really can't see the kid taking on a serious "screw the man" role. I'm betting it's a new character.

Geez, what is up with Sylar and his teen sidekick? Batman and Robin they ain't.

They brought back Sam's comics already? Heh, I guess Seth Green wasn't available this time around.

Aw, why did Nathan have to go to the White House off-screen? I wanted to see Worf again!

HAHA "TECHNICALLY I'm a serial killer."

Where did Hiro get the Sprint phone? Shouldn't that be a no-no at this point? Even Claire said "They can track it" in this very episode.

So is Abby gonna be the big villain? Doubt it.

Awww...Sylar and Robin are bonding.

"THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!" *ignore the still chained up Tracy*

Poooooor Aquaman. Er....Alex. His power sucks.

I love how smart Claire's getting. They're really giving her character some nice moments this season.

So Ando starts hitting on a girl in a diner while Hiro watches. Irony!

Why the fuck is Sylar giving the kid advice?

And why is Sylar going so emo all of a sudden. I bet he just wants to know if his dad has powers.

Did they imply that the girl Hiro and Ando went to save was a lesbian? Or was that just me?

PLEASE tell me Tracy's getting Jessica's powers.

She went and screwed everything up by icing that guy up, but you have to admit, it was a cool scene.

Holy crap, now Claire's parents are getting a divorce!

Aw...it was just Nathan. Would have been cool though.

How did Sylar find time to get a disguise. For that matter....how did he sneak into a VAN?!?

Claire has a boooyyyyyy sleeping in her room!

Oh, it wasn't Nathan. It was gung-ho-soon-to-bite-it guy. I know they're gearing up to make him the villain, but I'm not buying it just yet. Although I could see him having a hidden power of his own.

SWEET. Looks like Matt might actually use his real powers next week.

Okay...first thing's first...it's WORF!

Now, on to the important stuff:

1) I think Sylar taking Luke under his wing is friggin' awesome...and totally unlike him. I was never into Sylar (at least his character...love the man) until this season--he's much more interesting now.

2) Yar...I thought Anna was implying her "restaurant partner" was more than that.

3) I laughed out loud with delight when Alex stepped out of Claire's closet--that was totally something she would do and so well-timed.

4) Mohinder, Matt and Peter drugging Noah was SUHWEET!

5) Hiro's jealousy of Ando is SO getting on my nerves.

6) Zeljko Ivanek (God I hope I spelled that right) is such a pain in the ass--at least he's giving us a good performance, but for fuck's sakes does he EVER play a non-asshole? (See Oz and True Blood for an idea of this guy and his typical role.)

That's it from me.

Oops. Thanks for pointing that out. I type too fast sometimes.

Michael: I knew the hunter looked familiar, but as soon as you said True Blood, I totally put two and two together. Thank you!

I love that they gave the comic geek (who is pretty damn hot, now that I give him a second look) underwater breathing. It is like Karma is paying him back for every Aquaman joke everyone has ever made.

Did anyone else notice that while Sylar and his boy wonder were driving, the song Psycho Killer was playing? It made me giggle a bit, tbh.

As for Rebel: my instinct tells me it is Angela and/or HRG working from the inside of Nathan's plan to undermine Nathan, although I want it to be a group of side heroes, like Monica, Micah, The Haitian, maybe Claude and/or Molly. I know it is extremely unlikely, but it would be super awesome, no?

My guess on rebel is the gungho army guy with white hair. He plays up Claire who really wants to catch, but then the Hiro/Ando note means less. Maybe to get them back on US soil or something (didn't bother them last time). But it will probably be a new character.

Also the horrible cliche "What is a hot blond girl like you doing in a comic shop?" ( that some how got from the midwest to California)

Well now that Noah is out of the house, it will make hiding aqualad that much easier. Also "HEY Claire's NEW love interest! Do you think you can last a whole season? you tend to crap out/runway/turnout to be gay (then turn straight) pretty quickly.

Sach said:

Oh, Burning Eyes, that's my theory about Rebel, too. It might turn out wrong, but his whole spiel about wanting to get Claire to go down was very incriminating.

And am I the only one who would love aquaman's powers? I'd never resurface if I could manage it. (As long as I didn't get amazingly pruny or... you know, die in other ways.)

Avshalon said:

OK first, yes...total lesbian.

Second, Hiro has stopped being amusing.

Lastly, I want "Rebel" to be Micah, who has now formed an underground resistance with other young people with abilities, giving him access to all of the information about what the government it is up to. BUT...I know they will take a really lame way out and just make it Nathan/HRG/Angela...take your pick.

come on why does everyone forget a the one person rebel will be Nikki / jessica's son. I am willing to put money on it

Ah, Burning Eyes, have you forgotten?? Claire lives in Costa Verde, CA. She hasn't lived in Odessa, TX since Volume 1. ;)

I think Rebel being Micha would be PERFECT! His ability provides a definite way that they could avoid detection by their pursuers. He can shut down or change all the electrical/computer devices. Would be nice for his character to comeback. Plus! If they had written Micah off the show, his picture wouldn't have been amongst the files the President had when he had his meeting in the first half of this season with Nathan. His picture being their indicates that he is probably going to be included in some way this season!

Comic of the Week

Review: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 I literally clapped my hands together and said OhMyGodYesssss when the friendly staff member at my regular shop held this book out to hand it to me. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung finally - finally - return to this title with a nine issue limited series. I will spare you paragraphs of pontification and cut to the chase: it's not just good, it's the best thing Marvel has going, period. Read on for the pontification and petty quibbles!...
