Wonderful Wizard of Oz Sells Out

6568header_banner1791841.jpg

In a great addendum to yesterday's review, Marvel has announced that the first issue of Eric Shanower and Skottie Young's adaptation of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz has sold out at the distributor level. There may be some random issues hanging onto wall racks in your LCS, but it's not too likely.

But fret not, intrepid readers. Marvel has announced they'll be going back to print of issue numero uno and it'll be on sale right around the corner on February 11th! You'll also get a spiffy variant cover (and not just random interior artwork this time either - a bona fide variant cover by series artist Young). Check out the new cover below.

So what are you waiting for? Go tell your LCS that you want the book put aside for you ... or else!

Official word from the House of Ideas after the jump.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Sells Out & Returns
The acclaimed new series launches with a sell out and new printing

Posted: 2009-01-12 Updated: 2009-01-12 15:24:34

One minute, she's a girl from Kansas and the next she's the great sorceress of the Munchkin people! How does Dorothy make such a radical transformation? Well an unexpected trip to the land of Oz sure helps. With Dorothy's critically acclaimed descent into Oz, Marvel is pleased to announce that THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ #1, by Eric Shanower and Skottie Young, has sold out at Diamond and will be going back to press. THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ #1 (of 8) SECOND PRINTING VARIANT will feature an all-new cover from Skottie Young, depicting Dorothy and her beloved Toto. Adapted from the beloved L. Frank Baum classic, fans and critics agree: his book is a must-have!

"The art team really runs wild, delivering one of the finest visual experiences of the year. And it's likely that, with seven issues to go, things will only get better from here. Marvel's endeavors with its adaptations have been quite outstanding; Oz is yet another example of this publisher growing its business and doing it in a way that is both respectful and incredibly entertaining" says Richard George of IGN.com.

Doug Zawisza of ComicBookResources.com raves, "Shanower and Young have nothing but love for this concept and the characters therein... The visuals on the book are simply kinetic. Young brings his overly cartoonish expressionistic style here to a great fit for his work -- as though he has found the assignment of his lifetime and seeks to pump his own life into it. His characters are bouncy and engaging and the colors make the story live even moreso."

Her first moments in Oz have been memorable. In the short time she's been there, she has met witches, Munchkins and a living Scarecrow! There's more in store for our young Kansas native, and to see where it all begins, check out THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ #1 SECOND PRINTING VARIANT!

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
