Who Knew People Still Watched Smallville?

672965Smallville_Logo.gif

Okay, so what happened here, folks?

There is nary a mention of Smallville except for the occasional Newsarama casting update, but as soon as TV Guide drops the news of a new Zatanna being added to the cast the blogoshere explodes in a flurry of half naked pictures of actress Serinda Swan.

I'm well aware fo the penchant for net nerds to go a little nuts over the pretty ladies, but where did this excitement over Smallville come from? Hell, I didn't think anyone even watched it anymore. It eeked out a new season on the CW and has become unrecognizable from the show at its start (for boon or bane on that point). And I'm fairly sure Zatanna isn't a huge property nor is Swan any sort of name to draw attention to the news.

Was this just an alignment of the planets or is the nerd culture really just that obsessed with overt sexuality?

Heh, you're kidding right?

Comics is rige with "teh bewb", some comics were made seemingly JUSt for that purpose. Look at any X title now, and you'll see the white queen in her saucy glory, snapping her spine for your optimal veiwage. Seriously, if there was ANY way to get more folks watching that show, it's to throw some meat to the geeks, especially meat that's easily googled to see it even better. 40 seasons of Mr. Kal'el shirtless wasn't really doing it, and they aren't pushing the beefy aqualad fellow, so it seems like Smallville's shark to jump.

Even if that jump is over a couple double-d's.

the the Geoff Johns penned Legion episode got a lot of attention and totally rekindled my interest in the show (when even their JLA season lost me). Zatanna has long been one of my favorite characters. I'm as gay as they come and even I can say that Serinda looks like a fabulous choice. I'll tune in Feb 26th to check out her fishnets.

Zatanna and Serinda

CAUTION NERD TANGENT: I still lament there has not been a good action figure of her. Alex Ross one was ugly, Michael Turner was a anorexic bimbo with implants. Earliest one ws cool but is in 40's style and doesn't mesh with other JLA figures.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 I literally clapped my hands together and said OhMyGodYesssss when the friendly staff member at my regular shop held this book out to hand it to me. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung finally - finally - return to this title with a nine issue limited series. I will spare you paragraphs of pontification and cut to the chase: it's not just good, it's the best thing Marvel has going, period. Read on for the pontification and petty quibbles!...
