Pulling Up The Covers #2

My, God.
It's freakin' December already. How the hell did that happen? Wasn't it just July like a week ago? Now I want to go all emo and play Linkin Park's My December and weep softly in a corner.
But first, how about this week's best (and worst) covers!
The winner for this very first week of December comes from a new idea from Marvel, X-Men: Noir. Given the penchant for over dramatic and busy covers, I'm still a sucker for the sleek and simple. This black and white image, capped off by the single spot of red, is a striking image on the comics rack.
As an honorable mention, Vixen's limited series has some great jungle and savanna covers. This one has some glorious perspective and great faces on the antelope (or what I'm assuming are antelope, a zoologist I am not).
For the flip side of the coin, the big loser of the week is another X-Men miniseries - X-Infernus #1. Aside from the content of this book being of no interest to me (I liked it when I read this book in the 80s and it was called X-Men: Inferno), this cover is a glaring example of a lot of what I find wrong ith modern comic book art. It takes a special kind of contortionist to be facing you and be showing both her ass AND her chest. I'm all for cheesecake art some times, but come one, how about some dignity at least?
Check out the gallery below for all the covers mentioned.

I don't know, there's something very Frazetta about the Infernus cover. It's nice, in a classic (though not classy) way.
hey, I can show my ass and chest (like Illyana) at the same time, maybe that's why I'm so popular with all the boys...
but a contortionist I am not.
and this is no cheesecake art, unless it was drawn at st. Olaf.
X-Infernus rocked - and you wouldn't mind the modern comic style so much if it was superman with his ass out and pecs bulging as he looked sexily out of the page - it just not targeed at you. Doesn't mean there isn't more to it. I'm a HUGE Magik fan so I loved it.
Well, for one I'm not a Superman fan so I wouldn't enjoy THAT either way.
But I would still roll my eyes if it was a man doing it. TO an extent I would feel vindicated in as much as it would actually be a bit of equality for a change, but if male nudity was as prevalent as female then I would most definitely be railing against it.
And even then, I don't have a problem with female sensuality. I think Amanda Conner draws some fantastically sexy women, but they're realistically proportioned and not twisting around in unnatural poses, shoving their ass in my face. There is a difference between being sexy and being slutty.
And for the record I am a fan of both Magik as a character and the original Inferno storyline.
Superman would only work if Rob Liefield was drawing him.
But then Supes would have really big shoulder pads, no? How "Joan Collins" of him.
ROFL, Superman would have 40 teeth and 33 ab muscles.
I like Magik, but I'm not really enjoying this first X Infernus book.
I agree with Goblin on the cheesecake factor of that cover, but I think because either it's everywhere these days or because that cover has been all over the internet for months, it didn't faze me at all.
As for the issue, I loved it. I am a huge fan of Magik, and I sorta loved the original storyline. I think this story is off to a good start. There was so much coolness in it, and for the first time since it happened, the writing and art made me really feel for Pixie when she was describing how she felt when Magik kidnapped her and others back a few months ago.
