The Ultimate Tease

Ultimatum Banner.jpg

Marvel has sent us a teaser poster for November's big event in the Ultimate Universe, the aptly titled Ultimatum. Word is that this story will change the status quo of the Ultimate line for the foreseeable future, including some new books premiering and some old books getting the axe. I'm thinking Ultimate Fantastic Four does not have a great chance of surviving given its sales decline and lack of future film prospects.

I was wary of the venture upon its initial release, but I grew to enjoy it for what it was. I followed both titles originally, but fluctuated on and off between them up to today (though I maintained Ultimate Spider-Man straight through). The problem now is that the imprint that was meant to streamline the continuity of the main books has become so bogged down in its own history that the original intent is lost.

What is a publisher to do? Hack and slash at the line of books with a big event to propel the characters into a new direction, apparently. Joe Quesada does love his Ultimate events, which is fair game since the line itself was an event launch when Quesada and Bill Jemas launched the line in 2001.

Whatever the outcome of Ultimatum is, so long as the adventure of teen Spidey remain after the ensuing chaos, I'll be happy.

Check the box below for the full tease and one hell of a plot point that I can't wait for.

Isn't that the wrong hammer? I haven't been paying attention to Ultimates since it became to dark to see any pictures and lost it's edge to some generic Loeb writing (hit or miss bastard, why couldn't it have been a hit)... But if Ultimate Thor now carries the same thing as Thor... It'd be nice if they'd grab all the original writers for a few issues and pump some life back into Ult.

So Magneto / Thor / Galactus looking figure is gonna pull a 'House of M' like thing, probably?

*I have no knowledge of the Ultimate-verse(s), this is just a ramble based on the teaser pic*

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
