Secret Invasion Amazing Spider-Man #3:

The final installment of the Spidey-comic-without-Spidey starts with the web-slinger making an odd cameo in which he recaps the story in a very Deadpoolesque fashion. After that we get right back into the action with Jackpot fighting her nemesis Menace, who...ok. I'm sorry. Having her steal her style from Black Cat is one thing, but now she has her own version of the Hobgoblin to fight? This issue just made me really glad I haven't been keeping up with the regular Spidey titles. The big ending here just made me mad that I wasted my time with something that didn't even make a dent in the main Secret Invasion storyline.

BURN IT

Runaways #3

First things first. Nico seems a bit....out of place this issue. I'm digging Ramos's art, and I love the way he shows each character's individual style, but since when is Sister Grimm a lolita goth? Er...don't answer that. Other then that, it's a real solid issue. The gang gets ready for another fight with the Majesdanians, which causes a bit of divide among the team. So far, there have been some really good moments of dialogue between the characters, but the plot just doesn't seem to be holding my attention very well (It may have something to do with just coming off of Secret Invasion). Hopefully, the pace will pick up a little in the next few issues, but for now...

Read it.

New Warriors #17

You know, every time I get a new issue I have to ask my self "Who are/were they?" This is a constant problem I have with New Warriors, there are just too few characters I actually care about (or even consistently recognize). As usual, this issue the team has a fight and Night Thrasher goes off on his own to "finish his mission." I'm getting serious recycled plot syndrome here, which is pretty bad, especially since this is only the 17th issue.

Skip it.

Invincible #54

A short, but oh-so-sweet issue. This one has Invincible traveling to the future, in order to save it from the rule of an insane tyrant (whose identity you may or may not figure out pretty quick. And no, it's not Omni-Man). More importantly, it also features a very special moment between Mark and Eve, if you're into that mushy stuff.

MUST HAVE

She-Hulk #34

Jen seemed to like being with the "Lady Liberators" (even if it is a really dumb name) after their run in with the Red Hulk , so she asks them back to help her deliver medicine. I know, that sounds kind of boring, but the interaction between the women is absolutely hilarious (even if Thundra is played more over the top than she usually is) Added with the fantastic art and colors, this is definitely worth it.

Read it

Hulk #7

The story that refuses to give you any real answers continues with Bruce Banner in Vegas when there's a wendigo attack, then Moon Knight shows up. Then it goes to the second story. Honestly, if we were getting bits and pieces of information on who the Red Hulk was more consistently, it may not be so bad. As it is, it just feels like it's being stretched out as much as possible. I did like the second story more than the first, but neither were good enough, or long enough, to warrant a buy.

Skip it

Ultimate Spider-Man #127

Gwen Stacy('s clone) is back, and being studied, Brock thinks Pete stole the Venom symbiote threatens him to get it back. I'm kind of torn on this, as it's not a bad issue, but it's not a fantastic one either. While clearly things are leading up to something (When are they not?), it overall seems to be an issue where not a whole lot happens outside of the a few pages here and there. Which leads me to say in the end, it's not really worth it.

Skip it.

Echo #7

I'm such a big fan of Terry Moore's work. While I'm still waiting for Echo to get as good as Strangers in Paradise was, I'm enjoying the story that is being told in Echo. There's so much intrigue and human emotion as well as good natured humor in each issue to keep readers interested. Oh, and that last page was a shocker!

Ms. Marvel #32

If there's nothing else I can say, Ms. Marvel is consistent. Unfortunately, it's consistently bad. In fact, I'm not entirely sure why I still pick this book up. This issue began a two-part back story of before Carol Danvers became Ms. Marvel. But, the same weaknesses that Ms. Marvel has as a super-hero is still there when she's supposed to be a kick-butt ace pilot. When Major Carol "Cheeseburger" Danvers is captured by the enemy, the reader is subjected to extreme images of what can only be called "torture porn". However, that's not even the worst part about this book. The worst part is just how unrealistic things get when Carol manages to escape her captors and decides to hike her way to safety with only one minor problem with that, she's suffered a compound fracture, an injury that doesn't seem to bother her much since she can just get up and walk away as if it was only a minor flesh wound!

Skip It!

Thunderbolts #125

Let me just say one thing, that Norman Osborne is one crafty guy. Not only is he crafty, he's downright scary. As the Thunderbolts help wrap up the secret invasion, we learn just how cunning Osborne can be as we notice that he's orchestrated himself into becoming the new savior of the people, and the television reporters are eating it up. I can tell you one thing, there's just no way that this can end well. However, thanks to the creative geniuses of Warren Ellis and Christos Gage, Thunderbolts is an excellent read. I can only hope that the new writer, Andy Diggle, who takes over next issue, can keep the high quality of writing that Ellis and Gage have brought to the book.

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
