Il Palazzo's Weekly Heroes Rant!

img_861.jpg

Welcome to the second installment of "Il Palazzo's Weekly Heroes Rant!" Each week, I hope to inspire you to get off your couch (after watching Heroes), and jump into your computer chair (so you can read about Heroes). Beware though, I'll be recapping each episode as it airs, so spoilers will abound. Look forward to my often-wrong theories, erratic comments, and comparisons to the comics the show steals material from is inspired by. Hit the jump for my rant on episode three!

...or episode two if you count last week's as one episode.

First off, Claire's mom. If you're like me, you recognize her mostly from Nip/Tuck. Every time she enters a room without saying "Hey, @$$hole" I die a little inside. And has she ever played a character that doesn't chain smoke?

What's with all the duplicate powers already? Claire's mom already had fire manipulation, but then they introduced the villain with the same power. Well, his is fire is blue....maybe that's what makes him a level five?

Speaking of duplicate powers, we have another painter. Odd how he only seems to be focusing on Matt though. I guess the writers really wanted to play up the fate/destiny aspect. But why did Matt's eyes go white? Is he getting that power too?

They killed Magneto the German already!

When Peter was in Jesse's body, he could see Jesse in his reflection. Why were they wearing different clothes?

Speaking of the level five guys...what makes them level five anyway? The flame dude isn't that great (like i said, Claire's mom has the same power), Jesse also shares a power with the guy from the webisodes. The only one I could possibly see being threatening is the fear guy. But if he just gets enhanced strength from fear, that's not a very big deal. Just shoot him. Or yell at him rather loudly.

WOW, Sylar in a suit. Quite snazzy there, Mr. Quinto. Speaking of which, who did he kill to get the "Turn this scene into Law and Order" power from?

So, Mama Petrelli really IS his mom? It still doesn't really click with me. Why give him up for adoption? Wasn't he born around the same time as Peter or Nathan? I bet he has a different dad. And possibly given up to avoid any political scandal (since Nathan's dad used to be a politician).

Heh, the speedster chick called Hiro "Pikachu."

Yay, the Haitian's back! And he's tagging along for Hiro and Ando's wacky misadventures through space and time! Ok, not really. But he DID put them in level five. Now that I think about it, why weren't Sylar and Peter put in there? Peter especially (since he had access to Hiro's power). And once the Haitian leaves, can't Hiro just teleport out?

Well, now we know a little more about Tracy Strauss and the final fate of Niki Sanders. It's a shame, because it really REALLY seems like they set up that scene just to write her family out of the show. It was pretty odd that Micah was the only one at his mother's wake. Hopefully, we'll see Monica or Micah again, but I doubt it will be any time soon.

Am I the only one that's noticed how quickly plot lines are getting wrapped up? I suppose they heard all the complaints and wanted to give more people instant gratification. I wouldn't mind a few extended story lines. Especially with ones that felt too short (Sylar as a "cop," Niki's family, etc.)

That's it for this week! Next week's episode seems like it should be pretty decent. Is Sylar playing a bored housewife?

Man I really wish this show would go away, it was kinda neat when it started, but it quickly got really really really mopey and other than Hiro, it seems to stay that way. Everyone is sad, and depressed because they have superpowers. Its not a new complaint I know but its still valid.

In the entire time the shows been running they've been innovative on maybe one power and character's take on that power, then just watered down established characters from comics and knocked off for lunch early.

Now we're gonna get a rehashing of the hulk story, man turns himself into monster, except its all evil. We're getting an even more depressed version of the Poet, if that is possible, fast girl just happens to look and sound like a female bart allen... urg.

As for Sylar's Law and Order power, I believe that his silver tongue could come from the woman in the first season that had the power to make people do whatever she said....or did she manage to kill herself before he could finish cutting her head open? I'm a bit unsure.

Level Five isn’t for powerful mutants (I call them mutants) it’s for violent ones. If you have a power but don’t go around destroying stuff/people they just tag you or recruit you.

As for Sylars’ new silver tongue power I think he got it from the body they carted out of the room when HRG walked in to level 5 to find out Sylar was his new partner.

As for duplicate powers I think its kinda cheep to have Moulhindar (can’t spell sorry) say that every one has unique body chemistry and then have so many duplicate powers. I have decided in my head that every one had slightly different powers but they occasionally manifest nearly identical effects. For instance if Bob has magnetism and Joe has the ability to move mettle with his mind without magnetic fields then their powers look almost identical.

Any one notice how they are slipping super hero names in to the dialogue? Tracy was called Ice Maiden by the reporter, Hiro was called Time Warp by the speedster, and the Speedster was called Nemesis by Hiro.

What about Linderman coming back? Is he real?

Niki was a twin, now there is another look alike, is it possible they are all really clones? If they were all clones shouldn’t they have the same power? Could Tracy be the Clone of Nikis’ twin sister?

Moulhindar has Spiderman powers. I would have given my self the shot, but I have read enough x-men to know when you get powers there is a chance you are going to get a sucky one. So I would have figured out a way to take powers away before getting powered up.

Nah, she blew her head off before he could see what was inside of her. I'm inclined to think it wasn't even a power, Sylar's just a good actor.

@ HermitIX:

If level five really was just for the overly violent ones, then why was Hiro there?
And I didn't think to mention the clone thing, but that's pretty much what they're alluding to. I'm a little worried now. Clones and time travel have always been comics' biggest easy-out. Then again, this may be a good way to bring back dead characters that didn't live up to their potential (Edie, anyone?)

Well, the show needed the "painting ability" back, to reconnect with comics books mythology and all that but I'm just wondering why an african painter draw the exact same way that the new-yorker? Some african stylisation would have been refreshing no?

Anyway, this season look better than the second one, even if I don't get all the "level 5" blahblah : villains were supposed to be worse than Sylar not just some bank robber sissies!
But I guess Sylar is now the star of the show and I won't complain because I just love some super top model bad ass serial killer with super power !(if only he could have more "just-get-out-of-the-shower" scene pleeease!)

Next episode: Sylar firemen
And the next : Sylar at the beach
and after : Sylar learn to cook, rescue Lassie, go to school, at the movies, go skiing, ect ect...

Sylar got the power from Candice who was able to manipulate how others saw and perceived her and her voice...although they should have shown that a lil better (remember in Season 1 when she changed into Nikki?) Sylar got her power at the start of Season 2.

Thanks for the wrap ups :) I love this site :)

Sylar didn't get Candace's power because he was still broken. He specifically tries to use it, and fails. Also, I think Hiro and Ando are in Level 5 because they got involved in something that we don't even know the brevity of, and now they are being detained to keep them out of it. Or maybe they will be test subjects!

Burning Eyes said:

The ice power has been copied too. sylar copied it from molly's dad ( or at least he was frozen to death by him)

Claire's real mom is still in the running for the worst mother ever. she probably already wasted the money Nathan paid her off on.

Issac painting ability is just like Hiro's and Peter's trips to the future. It is all about getting the "what is going to happen" or the "what do we have to do now?" It is the maguffin factory.

Think the show is great.

Sylar in a suit was awesome, I always thought he never got enough screen time and seeing him like that was pretty amazing.

I'm willing to bet some big bucks that Hiro's daddy, Kaito Nakamure. It always stuck in my head that Moma Petrelli bumped ulglys with him and I was sure that something was gonna come out of it (no pun intended) aka sylar.
