Cthulhu Falls To The Oncoming Apocalypse: News At 11:00!

-1.jpg

Those lovable cads over at BOOM! Studios are bringing their Cthulhu series together as the pieces of the story begin to coalesce. While I would love to try and explain to you how it all works out, quite frankly I don't think I'm smart enough to do so. Instead, let's head to the press release, shall we?

The Apocalypse is upon us! Since the beginning of the FALL OF CTHULHU storyline, readers have been anxiously awaiting the moment when all the tale's threads begin to tie together into the ultimate war between gods and men. As of now, they wait no longer. Let the Apocalypse begin!

"FALL OF CTHLHU: APOCALYPSE is what we've all been waiting for," said FALL OF CTHULTHU series writer Michael Alan Nelson. "This is the final showdown between ALL of our characters, great, small, and unseen. If you've been itching for some full-on divine smackdowns coupled with violent descents into irreparable madness, then you won't want to miss APOCALYPSE."

FALL OF CTHLUHU has been BOOM!'s flagship series for the past few years with critical acclaim and a strong fan base since its first issue. As the series progressed, Nelson's vision of H.P. Lovecraft's mythos spawned several popular BOOM! titles, from the monthly anthology CTHULHU TALES, Nelson's FALL OF CTHULHU: GODWAR, NECRONOMICON and the upcoming NYARATHOTEP.

"Many critics chastise writers for using other properties or characters if they deviate from the original material even a scotch," said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Mark Waid. "But at the same time, critics love to pounce on writers who don't develop the pre-existing properties. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. What I like about Michael is his ability to do justice to the source material while still utilizing it to tell his own unique story. APOCOLYPSE is where he gets to tell his masterpiece."

Well, yeah, there's that. Personally I'm buying it for that pretty cover.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Northstar's Boyfriend Coming In January! You guys may recall I was a bit cranky about Northstar and his lack of lovin' about a year and a half ago. In fact, at the time, I issued a challenge to Marvel to get him a kiss by June 2009 or I would declare him not really gay. I have not forgotten about this. However, when the X-men moved to San Francisco this year, we were teased with the existence of what looked to be Northstar's boyfriend (and manager), so I delayed judgment until we could see more. Since then, Northstar hasn't had a lot of major appearances, as there have been about a thousand major crossover events in the Marvel universe in the last six months, and each one tends to disrupt the normal storyline for most books, including the many X-books. So I waited. Our patience seems to have been rewarded! Artist Tim Fish revealed on his blog that his upcoming story in Nation X #2 (which comes out in Jan.) is a story about Northstar, and will feature Kyle, his boyfriend in an 8-page story. I'm not sure if an actual kiss is in it, but it's implied that there is some lovin' going on. Check out some sketches of Northstar, Kyle, and Aurora below, and we'll keep you up to date when we get closer to Jan. NATION X #2 1/6/10 [TimFishWorks]...
