Who Is More Gay: Marvel Or DC?

WIMGMDC.jpg

Kyle Minor over at Prism Comics has an interesting article up discussing the stereotypical attributes of the gay community and how they relate to Secret Invasion and Final Crisis.

Which event is more catty? How about which one makes more pop culture references?

Go on over to Prism Comics and check out the article for yourself.

If we were back a bit in time, say in the Annihilation/Young Avengers/NXM period, I would have said Marvel in a sec.
But as things are now (and I've gone into some detail about this in the Ultimate Northstar returns feature) Marvel has almost zero gay representation.
DC doesn't have that much more (I keep reading Checkmate in hope of seeing something happen with Tommy Jagger), but at least it has some.
Especially during FC. What with Renee Montoya and the Piper seemingly getting somewhat interesting roles in two of the offshoot titles.

See, I would disagree with the PRISM article, as the whole point of Secret Invasion is an army of people, pretending to be something they aren't. Trying desperately to work their way into positions of power.

That's right. Skrull's are all closeted homos. Only like... Evil... or more evil, I guess, if your a religious conservative.

should we mention the current San Francisco backdrop in X-Men?

Meh.
Unless they actually make it mean anything other than that they're in a more open-minded region (and the two first issues in SF were already about hate-crimes ¬_¬), the setting really doesn't matter all that much.

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
