Il Palazzo's Weekly Heroes Rant!

heroes_title_card.png

Welcome to the first installment of "Il Palazzo's Weekly Heroes Rant!" After several months of waiting, we finally saw the return of America's favorite non-superhero superhero TV show. Each week, I hope to inspire you to get off your couch (after watching Heroes), and jump into your computer chair (so you can read about Heroes). Beware though, I'll be recapping each episode as it airs, so spoilers will abound. Look forward to my often-wrong theories, erratic comments, and comparisons to the comics the show steals material from is inspired by. Now, without further adieu, hit the jump for Il Palazzo's first Weekly Heroes Rant for season three!

The "full night event" started with a premier party (complete with a red carpet and everything). It seemed a bit...out of place. There aren't many shows that have premiere parties (something normally reserved for movies), so this just struck me as odd. If not for some of the interesting things happening between the actors trying to seem like they weren't reading cue cards, I probably wouldn't have bothered watching it the whole way through. I don't have the DVD's yet, so the behind-the-scenes bits were interesting to me (and now I want the DVD's....dammit). Instead of a normal recap episode, like most shows do these days before a new season, they did general character highlights. Pretty neat. They felt a bit like AMVs with scenes from the show.

It was really Weird seeing Masi Oka saying more then a couple of phrases at a time (not just because he speaks Japanese in the show, but I haven't seen him in any larger roles either). I found it especially odd that they decided to show clips from the new season (mostly from the first episode), when the new season was "minutes away" from debuting. The fact that most of it was all very spoiler heavy was pretty annoying as well.

It also pointed out every single Star Trek reference made in the show so far. Good lord, the writers are huge nerds. And that kettle is quite black. The one really interesting thing the preview thing did was point out something I never thought about considering Suresh. He's the go-to guy for fixing problems. He had to help Peter. He had to help the Company. He was Molly's other "dad" for awhile (where the hell did she go, anyway?). You KNOW the guy has to be stressed. How does he stay sane? Oh yeah. He doesn't (as this episode reveals).

Now, for the actual show...

Who shot JR? Nathan Petrelli? Oh, Future Peter did. That was a quick resolution. I honestly didn't see that coming, but I did predict Nathan popping up like that in the hospital (almost like the camera was set up to give it away).

I like the new speedster chick. She almost has a costume ensemble going for her. Very Flash-esque. I hope she lives.

Ok, Future Peter finally calmly explains himself to Nathan, but only after shunting Matt into the past, and throwing Present Peter into someone else's mind. Dude has the powers of a god, what's he so scared of?

Heh, when Nathan started going on about God and stuff I wondered if he had brain damage from getting shot. Maybe he saw a tunnel? Linderman all but confirmed this.

It's officially. Sylar doesn't eat brains. I always thought it would be funny that if he finally caught up with Claire he would try to cut her head open, but it would instantly grow back. The "Eat your brain? That's disgusting" made up for it though.

Speaking of Claire. Sylar said she's special and can't die. Then why can't she feel anything anymore? I'm thinking he severed a nerve somewhere. Did he put her head back on wrong?

Holy crap, Future Ando has Sith Lightning! I bet I know where he got those powers too (Protip: He wasn't born with them).

So, Mohinder first turns into Spider-Man, then has his way with what's-her-face like Wolverine, and now he's turning into the Abomination? That might actually be pretty cool.

They finally revealed what Momma Petrelli's powers are. ....dreams? That's it? I was under the impression that she was a bit Siren-like, able to subtly persuade people to do things or shatter glass if she screams loud enough. We'll see.

Hasn't Sylar had enough yet? Why did he even NEED Elle's power? Or Bob's way more useless one for that matter? I blame the Pokemans.

So, Niki has a new personality, which has a power of it's own. Or, it's entirely possible that this is NOT Niki. They did say way back when season 2 ended that Niki died. Perhaps they took the extra time to write a new role for Ali Larter.

How did Future Peter put Present Peter into that other guy's mind? Could this be an extension of Matt's power? If so, where's Present Peter's body?

Finally, the ending of the show. She's his mother? Think there was any truth to that? Or was Momma Petrelli just being her normal evil bitch self?

And that's it for this week! I know it's a little scatterbrained (I type as I watch normally), but hopefully I've cleaned it up enough to make it enjoyable. Anyone got any theories on my questions? Discuss away.

OMG I didn't see it yet. So ummm... I'm gonna try not to read what you put.

Please include gratuitous pics of Zachary Quinto.

I don't think Peter sent Matt to the past. I think it's present time, just way out in Africa.

The only reason I say it's not the past is the crappy and ill placed product placement for Sprint. If you're going to pimp a cell phone, you should at least go with one of the GSM carriers when you're dealing with a location outside of the US.

OK, over picky on my part I know, it just irked me and I needed to get that off my chest. :)

My theory on Tracy: She is actually Jessica, who was taken by the Company, instead of being killed by her father.

I absolutely love that they brought one of the villains from the online comic (The German, who is a ersatz Magneto.

I absolutely loved the turtle gag, and the massive bone that Sylar threw to the fans.

Mohinder is more The Fly than Spiderman, I think. Especially considering where they took him after he woke up Post MAAAAAAYYYYYAAAAA nookie.

Haha, Willbabe I love how you captured in text exactly how I say MAAAYYYYAAA'S name

@David
Agreed. I probably typed that before Matt even met the African guy. And I'd bet the product placement is a necessary evil. I don't even want to think about how much it costs to make each episode.

@Willbabe
Yeah, you're right about The Fly reference. I didn't catch it because I've never seen the flick. Oops.

I was gonna say "yay for shirtless Mohinder" until we saw his reaction to the serum. Ewwwwwwww!
