Wonder Woman #23

Unlike the first arc of Gail Simone's run on Wonder Woman the End of the Earth was rather dull. The finale's cause and effect was unexciting and despite a cameo that might lend itself to future drama it didn't feel much like something one has to read.

Skip It.

Final Crisis Revelations #1

Oh, how I have missed reading a sweeping story in a DC comic that I wasn't lost in from the first panel. Greg Rucka is back writing characters he knows well in a story that is filled with exposition for both newbie and veteran fans of former police partners Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen. With an eye towards violent imagery and dense storytelling this is the one part of Final Crisis I will not miss. With a final splash page that is my comic moment of the week this book is a

MUST HAVE

Secret Invasion #5

The Invasion keeps unfolding in an issue that really feels like the center of the story. As part of the eventual trade paperback the series of reveals and regroupings won't feel quite like the part of a long trip where you find yourself asking "Am I there yet" but as a stand-alone issue it unfortunately does. Where the first four issues had me anticipating the next installment this one felt like the breaks were constantly being put on. Not every moment in a story such as this one should be a thrill ride but with the bar raised so high this one felt like merely something you have to read to see how it ends.

Sgt. Sausagepant's Reviews

Green Lantern Corps #27

Well, based on the cover, I thought this issue was going to delve deeper into the link between the Guardians and the Emerald Eye of Ekron... It turned out to be something else entirely... something horrifying... we're set up for what may be a disturbing story arc here people.

Booster Gold #11

Speaking of set ups for story arcs, Booster is getting himself into trouble with Batman now. As always, time travel gets wacky, but I'll say this one thing. Don't mess with Alfred. He means business. Can Booster stop Batman from being wiped from existance?

Secret Invasion Runaways Young Avengers #2

When Secret Invasion started, the book I was looking forward to the most was the one with the Runaways and the "Cosplay Avengers." I was not disappointed. The anime-inspired art is a perfect fit, and I'm loving the characters reactions to the progressively-getting-worse situation. My biggest complaint with these books is that they never seem to last long enough. The two teams almost seem like they were created to interact with each other.

MUST HAVE

Astonishing X-Men #26

After Whedon's run, I wasn't sure what was going to happen with this title. With Warren Ellis as writer, I knew it wouldn't be your normal variety of X-Men title. It appears that i was right. So far, I'm bored. The plot revolves around them trying to track down a murderer in their new hometown. The detective angle really worked in X-Factor, but it's not really what I'm expecting from what was once a pretty large-scale book.

Skip it.

Atomic Robo Dogs of War #1

I'm a huge fan of 8-Bit Theater, so I immediately jumped on the chance to read something new written by Brian Clevinger. This doesn't have the same wackiness his webcomic is known for, but it's a great straightforward book. The overall tone reminds me of Hellboy (yes, there are even Nazis). But, it has so much of it's own charm that I can easily reccommend it.

Captain Britain and MI 13 #4

The Skrull's invasion of the UK continues as its heroes fight back. With Brian back, it seems the tide might just be turned. Most of the events in this comic seem to be oddly removed from the rest of the invasion, as most of the Skrull's attack is on the magic of the country. Still, the cast is compelling and continues to feature one of the most interesting new characters in mainstream comics: Faiza. Clearly, there's more in store for her from the looks of the last panel.

Read it

Walking Dead #51

A lot has happened in the last several issues, a lot. If you're not reading Walking Dead in some way, really, what the hell are you waiting for? This issue is mostly a stand alone story; Rick and Carl continue on after the horrific events and they just may have found more survivors. This issue actually has reinvigorated my interest in the book, and the twist ending is fantastic. I'm actually giving it a rare (for me)...

MUST HAVE

Secret Invasion: Inhumans #1

Medusa and Crystal try to convince their people that they must help in the defense of Earth, as Attilan has also been targeted by Skrulls. It doesn't take much convincing as the Skrulls soon show up. The new king, however, has a new approach to dealing with the threat than his kingdom may like. I'm kind of divided on the issue, as a few important things that are starting, but in the end I felt kind of underwhelmed by the issue itself. If you must know all of the Invasion and/or are a huge Inhumans fan, get it. Otherwise, I'm not sure it's worth it.

Skip it.

Captain Britain... They seemed to be pretty casual about what happened to John. Was I missing something?

p.s. where Goblin at?

Goblin had super secret hero business to attend to. He'll be back next week.

I think they were just playing the 'well he died like a good soldier card' in regards to John.

Comic of the Week

Review: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 I literally clapped my hands together and said OhMyGodYesssss when the friendly staff member at my regular shop held this book out to hand it to me. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung finally - finally - return to this title with a nine issue limited series. I will spare you paragraphs of pontification and cut to the chase: it's not just good, it's the best thing Marvel has going, period. Read on for the pontification and petty quibbles!...
