Moment Of The Week #5

Spoiles.jpg

Well, with the shocking finale and extreme diving thing it's got going on, Catwoman handily won last week for Moment of the Week.

This week we take a look at scenes from Buffy (more on that after the jump), Authority, Frontline, Invincible Iron Man, and The Boys. So join me after the jump, and be warned. Spoilers lie beyond. So if you still have to pick up any of these books, don't read ahead because it'll ruin the surprise!

Buffy #17

Hi Buffy fans. Let's talk.

So, as some of you correctly gathered from my response last time a Whedon book won, we were a little surprised. It was a quick, (but funny), dig on Charmed, but really, was it that impressive? Maybe, maybe not. However, we forgot how fandom works at times. We love everyone enjoying the site and getting more page hits, but remember, the other books may not have such a rabid fanbase. People apparently got hate mail over this.

The nominations for Moment of the Week are all submitted either by myself or by the other Pink Kryptonite writers. So they are influenced by our personal opinions, and a lot of us are Whedon fans because he has been so inclusive of gays in his projects. However, now that we've realized how organized other Whedonites can be, we've decided to only include a Whedon 'moment' if it's pretty intense. Something mind-blowing.

That said, here's the probable winner this week, if last time was anything to go by.

Oh Shi-... and Xander nowhere in sight to talk her down.

Do your worst Buffy fans, but no more hate mail, k? :)

The Boys #21

So imagine yourself as a little kid, on one of the 9/11 flights, only in this world, there's a team of superheroes flying next to the plane to stop the terrorists. Not so much because they care, but because it would get military contracts to the people who know how to create superhumans. If you were this little kid, sitting next to the emergency exit, staring with awe out the porthole...

...is probably the worst possible place to be. Not that the other people on that plane are going to have a better day.

Secret Invasion: Front Line #2

Front Line is a comic that prides itself on showing the human side of these giant super-powered crisis moments in the Marvel Universe. How real people have to deal with it. And you know what?

Frontline008.jpg

Sometimes the only human reaction is to get the hell out of there.

Invincible Iron Man #4

This is much less depressing. In Invincible Iron Man, Pepper Potts gets hurt, and Tony designs a chest 'glowy thing' to help save her, keep her alive. But Pepper doesn't want it, because Tony's technology is still based on weapons, no matter what he uses it for, and she won't be anyone's bomb. Luckily for her (as he reveals) it was actually based on Rand Corp technology and isn't a bomb, just a battery. Pepper is relieved, and then Tony shows her how to use it.

Tony you're so sappy at times.

The Authority: World's End #1

I mentioned a very touching and sad moment in The Authority last week, and here it is. Shen flys up and calls down Apollo to help Midnighter deal with a couple super-powered, infectious hulks, and we get this.

I think I'm going to cry.

The Authority of course!

I love me some Dark Willow, but how can that Authority moment not be the moment of the week?

My vote (If my humble reader self gets a vote.) is for the Apollo & Midnighter scene. Sure Dark Willow always gets my fan boy juices a-bubblin, but Apollo and Midnighter are in such a tragic situation. True love denied and all that. I am getting all misty. ::Wipes a single tear from his eye.::

Oh, hey I do get a vote. Sweet!

ugh. dark willow. again?

Umm, the Apollo & Midnighter scene was poignant, but it didn't have the ominous and WTF-edness of the Willow reveal.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Northstar's Boyfriend Coming In January! You guys may recall I was a bit cranky about Northstar and his lack of lovin' about a year and a half ago. In fact, at the time, I issued a challenge to Marvel to get him a kiss by June 2009 or I would declare him not really gay. I have not forgotten about this. However, when the X-men moved to San Francisco this year, we were teased with the existence of what looked to be Northstar's boyfriend (and manager), so I delayed judgment until we could see more. Since then, Northstar hasn't had a lot of major appearances, as there have been about a thousand major crossover events in the Marvel universe in the last six months, and each one tends to disrupt the normal storyline for most books, including the many X-books. So I waited. Our patience seems to have been rewarded! Artist Tim Fish revealed on his blog that his upcoming story in Nation X #2 (which comes out in Jan.) is a story about Northstar, and will feature Kyle, his boyfriend in an 8-page story. I'm not sure if an actual kiss is in it, but it's implied that there is some lovin' going on. Check out some sketches of Northstar, Kyle, and Aurora below, and we'll keep you up to date when we get closer to Jan. NATION X #2 1/6/10 [TimFishWorks]...
