LGBT Character Of The Week - Danny The Street
This is an unusual one but I love it. From the pages of Doom Patrol, Danny the Street is... a street.
That's right, he is a sentient, living stretch of road and buildings. (or was, more on that later). Oh, and he's a transvestite. How can a street be a transvestite? Well, he's lined himself with very masculine shops. Gun Stores, Army Navy Surplus, and the like. However, all the stores are decorated with frilly curtains and stars and bows and very feminine decór.
Danny is able to teleport himself and his residents to pretty much anywhere, often doing so at night. He simply shuffles around other streets and makes himself a natural part of whatever city or area he is going to. Eventually he becomes a mobile headquarters for the Doom Patrol.
He can't speak, but communicates via window signs, broken glass, steam shaping into words, etc... He is kind and slow to anger, and his personality is based on drag performer Danny LaRue.
Eventually Danny left the mainstream DC Universe and traveled to another universe, becoming Danny the World, and swore to defend the needy of all dimensions. He even made a brief appearance in One Year Later.

Rue being French for street of course.
I'm not sure if that means this makes less sense or more!
Good gods -- I grew up with Danny LaRue on the TV ... in the UK, of course. (Tells you about when I was born, doesn't it?) I loved the man's act. Fantastic. Anyone seen his movie, "Our Miss Fred" ...?!
