Superhero Movie Without A Comic Book But With Some Issues

Hancock opened this past weekend at number one with over a 60 million dollar box office. A superhero movie not based on a comic book it seems the first time, in recent years, that the Hollywood movie studios have tried to jump on a money making bandwagon without the aid of comic book source material.
For fans of comic books this certainly felt like an interesting discussion for our readers to have but in the midst of putting this piece together I discovered a second element that is much more interesting for PK readers to discuss.
It seems there is a moment in the film where Will Smith's character is faced with wardrobe choices. His character's response has raised some eyebrows at GLAAD.
Considering recent conversations here regarding inclusion in comics, as well as the film's target audience, what are your thoughts on the debate?
For those of you who saw the film what was your reaction to the moment in question?
Does it help point out how obnoxious Hancock is at the start of the film? Or were you offended by the response?

Maybe it's me, but it seems "mild" homophobic language and themes have been higher lately, often done in a way where you can't tell if it's supposed to speak to a character's thoughts or the writer's. Like Scrubs; I really like the show for the most part (especially earlier seasons), but they can make some comments that really surprise me. The Stargates can do it too, occasionally; though sometimes they seem to do it as a tongue-in-cheek reference to slash fic. (IE Daniel and Jack)
