Say What?! - West Coast Representin'
Okay, sorry for the tired 90s pseudo-slang. Being just about the whitest person in America, the vernacular of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air is just hitting my tiny little world here in the wilds of the New Jersey suburbs. Forgive me if I'm a tad behind the times.
Anyway, this week is the industry behmouth that is ComiCon International, most often referred to as the San Diego ComiCon.There are all sorts of blogs and e-mailers going out asking who's going and what they're doing. I'll try to spin it a little differently and ask just this:
Is San Diego about comics anymore?
Every year more and more film and television is represented and this has usually been looked at as a good thing; it drove people to the seats. But are comics getting pushed out? Are they even a reason to go aside from people who would go anyway because they go to the New York and Chicago conventions?
What do you think? Let us know!

It's nearly insufferable these days. Nearly, but not quite. It's really a pop culture con these days and big film announcements/previews/stars overshadow everything else.
Yes, I'm going this year. But Sunday only. Last year it took me 2 hours (standing in the sun) to get in the doors on *Thursday* morning. Who goes on Thursday?
The other media announcements sure put "comic conventions" on the map. I've always wanted to attend, but I doubt I will ever make it out, given the sellout crowds.
While major comics announcements are made, I think the other media gets the attention and the focus. Of course, the comics annoucements are only for the comics reading fans.
I have yet to attend the SD comic con, but it sounds like mayhem with the big announcements. As long as there are still things to cater to comic fans I guess its ok. I usually attend the comic con's little cousin, the wonder con in SF. Which is smaller scale.
And here's more of Goblin's people:

Hahaha!
Do answer the question, the NJ douchebag is by far the worse of the two.
