Not Quite Manga: Cybersix

cybersix_numero6_00.jpg

Several years ago, there was a neat little cartoon that debuted on Fox Kids called Cybersix. It didn't last but a handful of episodes, and I remember it being a lot more mature then most other Fox Kids shows. I'm not sure why it was canceled. The main character was Adrian Seidelman, a new teacher at a high school, with a secret. He's really the super powered vixen known as Cybersix, a former Nazi experiment. She goes out at night hunting down other experiments, draining their "sustenance," which lets her live a little while longer. Adrian quickly meets Lucas Amato, another high school teacher. Ironically, Lucas seems to be developing feelings for Cybersix (and most of his conversations with Adrian quickly turn to her).

The series may have been a bit much for Fox Kids viewers (I'm honestly surprised it wasn't targeted more to the Aeon Flux crowd, considering the timing), but the comics the series were based on (written in Spanish) still exist somewhere out there. With a little searching, you can probably find a good translation. Maybe one day some American publisher will find this neat little gem and we'll see an official release. If you want to learn more, check out the Wikipedia page.

I remember this cartoon, they showed the whole thing up here in Canada, it was quite good, if a little bit odd. They kept switching between a serious storyline and trying to appeal to children with it. You used to be able to watch it on YTV and Teletoon.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
