Moment Of The Week #3

Spoiles.jpg

Well, last week the clear winner of Moment of the Week was definitely Spike: After The Fall. And we all learned an important lesson. Whedon fans are both terrifying and organized. A few fan blogs linked to us and skewed the poll juuuuuusssst a bit (by 300+ votes).

I'm allowing it as a technical victory but giving honorary second place to Rogues Revenge as it had the next highest amount at seventeen. Play nice with the other comics, Whedonites!

This time our selection of moments from last weeks new issues comes from Green Lantern Corps, New Avengers, and Robin. So join me after the jump, and be warned. Spoilers lie beyond. So if you still have to pick up any of these books, don't read ahead because it'll ruin the surprise!

New Avengers #43

The fight between hero and skrull continues in the savage land, and while I won't ruin who this mysterious Captain America is, (real? fake?), one thing is for sure. That sabertooth is going to be pissed when it recovers.

Guess he's more of a dog person.

Robin #175

Sooo... Batman has been a little weird lately. And Robin has noticed this. He spends this issue trying to track down where Bruce has run off to, even enlisting the help of the above Spoiler and the Penguin to try and track him down. When Spoiler asks what he'll do if Batman DOES turn out to be crazy...

All I can say about this one is that Robin looks and sounds like a badass and something is seriously wrong with that Batsignal.

Green Lantern Corps #26

This one is a bit sad. In the fight with Mongul around the Black Mercy world, our trusty crew of Lanterns wasn't doing so well against the yellow-ringed Mongul. Enter Bzzd, insectoid Lantern and partner to the Lantern planet Mogo. Bzzd flew inside Mongul and basically unleashed a full blast, blowing out an eyeball in the process. Afterwards when they go to thank him, however...

I choked up a bit at this page... Poor Bzzd. Even dying he only cared that his teammates were safe. Earlier they had shown via Black Mercy that his greatest fear was to not make a difference. He certainly did, though. Goodbye little bug.

And now it's time to vote! Which comic will earn the completely uncoveted Moment of the Week prize!? (No cash awarded) You Decide! We'll tally the votes and award them absolutely nothing next week!

I found the GLC moment a bit stupid to be honest. All the others got bashed together and what not and came out of the fight unharmed, yet the fly (who wasn't even the target of an attack) died?
And why exactly? Did he just propel his body through Mogul's head? Surely he could have used his ring to bore a way through. Or create a forcefield around himself so whatever it was that killed him, well... wouldn't have.
It just seemed like a big unnecesairy death just so they could have a vaguely dramatic moment.

Also, while I'm letting go off my inner complainer.
Has Robin considered trying to get his assumed crazy mentor help rather than to take him down?
Of course, I haven't been folowing Batman so I don't know if they assume he's crazy because of evidence that he might have done bad stuff.

Robin prolly has Bat-envy issues.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Northstar's Boyfriend Coming In January! You guys may recall I was a bit cranky about Northstar and his lack of lovin' about a year and a half ago. In fact, at the time, I issued a challenge to Marvel to get him a kiss by June 2009 or I would declare him not really gay. I have not forgotten about this. However, when the X-men moved to San Francisco this year, we were teased with the existence of what looked to be Northstar's boyfriend (and manager), so I delayed judgment until we could see more. Since then, Northstar hasn't had a lot of major appearances, as there have been about a thousand major crossover events in the Marvel universe in the last six months, and each one tends to disrupt the normal storyline for most books, including the many X-books. So I waited. Our patience seems to have been rewarded! Artist Tim Fish revealed on his blog that his upcoming story in Nation X #2 (which comes out in Jan.) is a story about Northstar, and will feature Kyle, his boyfriend in an 8-page story. I'm not sure if an actual kiss is in it, but it's implied that there is some lovin' going on. Check out some sketches of Northstar, Kyle, and Aurora below, and we'll keep you up to date when we get closer to Jan. NATION X #2 1/6/10 [TimFishWorks]...
