Manga Review Monday!

Fairy-Tail_NekoiEchizen078_1086x140.jpg

Welcome to the first installment of Manga Review Monday! I'm your host, Il Palazzo. Here, I'll be reviewing various manga that was released in the previous week. Plus, as a little bonus, I'll be reviewing a book I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy!

Here's a brief rundown:

[MUST HAVE]
Reborn Vol. 8

[READ THESE]
Black Cat Vol. 15
Fairy Tail Vol. 3

[SKIP THIS]
Rosario Vampire Vol. 1

Check out the full reviews after the jump!

Black Cat Vol. 15

This volume is all about one-on-one fights. Which is a good thing, because that's one of Yabuki's strong points. The gang still doesn't get to Creed, but you do get to see Eve turn in to a mermaid. Wait, when did she learn to do that?

Read it.

Fairy Tail Vol. 3

What drew me to this series? No, I wasn't a Rave Master fan. The book looked like a good read because it seemed like One Piece with magic involved. And guess what? My assumption was completely spot on! Now, don't take that as a bad thing. Sometimes, genericness can be a good thing for a manga series. The plot is really just the background here, it's the characters that really shine through.

Read it.

Rosario Vampire Vol. 1

After reading the preview in Shonen Jump, I decided to go out and get the first volume. I won't say I was disappointed exactly, but I was hoping for a bit more. I really like the monster high-school idea, and I hope it's able to go somewhere with it, but the first volume just seemed a bit too boy-meets-girl for my taste.

Skip it.

Reborn Vol. 8

Remember in this week's Manga-Nation when I mentioned that Reborn was supposed to get badass? Well, this is where that happens. If you haven't been reading the series, start here. The gang meets up with a rogue mafia group and has to take them on one-by-one. Who knew Akira Amano had such a talent for action scenes?

MUST HAVE

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 I literally clapped my hands together and said OhMyGodYesssss when the friendly staff member at my regular shop held this book out to hand it to me. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung finally - finally - return to this title with a nine issue limited series. I will spare you paragraphs of pontification and cut to the chase: it's not just good, it's the best thing Marvel has going, period. Read on for the pontification and petty quibbles!...
