LGBT Character of the Week: Kaorin

This week's character is-hm? You're wondering what I'm doing here? Well, Sgt. Sausagepants was gracious enough to give me this opportunity to spotlight a LGBT manga character for the week.

This week's character is Kaorin from Azumanga Daioh. She was never actually outed or anything, but her crush on Sakaki was a running gag in the series.

You can't help but feel sorry for Kaorin. All she wants is to be close to Sakaki, but she seems to be cursed with shyness. Every time Kaorin gets near her crush she stutters and can't seem to get anything out in time. It normally ends pretty hilariously (and normally involves Mr. Kimura).

Unfortunately, Kaorin didn't get much screen time in the books, which was actually part of the gag (getting separated from Sakaki). She had a little more action in the anime though, which even introduced her mother.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 I literally clapped my hands together and said OhMyGodYesssss when the friendly staff member at my regular shop held this book out to hand it to me. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung finally - finally - return to this title with a nine issue limited series. I will spare you paragraphs of pontification and cut to the chase: it's not just good, it's the best thing Marvel has going, period. Read on for the pontification and petty quibbles!...
