Hellboy's Image Rises From The Depths

IMG_0827-1.JPG

With Hellboy II: The Golden Army opening this Friday, the PR machine is in full gear. Here in NYC they've gotten a little creative with the sewer manhole cover pictured to the side there. The Beat has a shot of a huge banner ad in Times Square, the Mecca for commercialization.

What's the news to this post? Well, there isn't any. I'm just glad to see an indie darling like Hellboy and Mike Mignola getting such a big spotlight. It's also reassuring to see a good film (I'm assuming, based on the first) be so popular with people who tend to like tripe like Epic Movie.

So plan your weekends accordingly, intrepid PK readers. Hellboy II: The Golden Army opens this Friday and you all better be at your local theater!

Agreed!

After the disappointment of Wanted, especially the second half, it's nice to see people adapting good indie comics that honors the source material with artistry.

And great to see a little grass roots campaign for it.

I could see a film like that building on it's first week audience instead of falling off so dramatically like EVERY other film that opens these days.

I enjoyed Wanted! I thought that it established its own universe very well and went batsh*t crazy within its confines.

That and Angelina Jolie was unnervingly hot...

:-)

Wow, what a cool concept for an ad!

And I liked wanted too, but my angelina bias let me overlook the plotholes.

The action was well done and I was surprised it was more than just a matrix knockoff.

We have lost the Hellboy thread - but I must comment.

I loved it until after the train. I was willing to forgive the Loom of the Fates (are we in the famous Xena episode?). But as soon as I saw they had Terence Stamp in such a thankless role half way through I saw the ending coming a mile away.

It just seemed text book arcing from the second they turned the tables.

As for Angelina - I'm with Jono - I could watch her read the phone book. High profile or small indie roles she just commands.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Wonder Woman #1 - #5 OK, so a couple of unkind reviews from me of late. Does that mean I hate the whole New 52? No, not at all. Does it mean that I only enjoy the new characters? Definitely not. Case in point: Wonder Woman is one of my favorite books of the relaunch. I think it's very good, with strong writing, an excellent ambience and fantastic art. Read on for why this reboot is the first time I've ever subscribed to Wonder Woman!...
