DC Universe MMO News! First Screenshots! MySpace! Kryptonite Farmers?!

DC has been pretty busy in the video game world. What with the completely unexpected Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe and the eagerly anticipated Lego Batman in the works.
Over the course of this past week, a few details have been revealed regarding DC's foray into the MMO world with DC Universe Online.
According to the project's creative director (none other than Jim Lee), the game will be a "kick-ass hybrid between a traditional MMO and a first-person action console game." You won't be able to play as DC's famous heroes and villains (duh), but you'll be able to create and customize your avatar's appearance and powers, much like that other superhero MMO, City of Heroes. You'll level up your powers and interact with the stars of the DC universe in places like Metropolis and Gotham City with branching story lines based on your heroic or villainous affiliations.
One of the exciting aspects that Lee hinted at was that the events in the game may be mirrored in the regular DC comics.
So, for example, if I decided to power-level Jimmy Olsen from level 1 to 70 over the course of one day and give him access to all abilities, only to have the server restart and wipe away all of my data, this would be accurately reflected in something called Countdown.
In all seriousness, I can't wait to see how this game turns out to be. It sounds exciting and looks promising. Can you imagine being involved in a world wide plot that has you working with the likes of Batman, Wonder-Woman, and Superman?
Sony Online Entertainment has set up a MySpace page with lots of goodies, including concept art, screenshots, and other cool extras.
As another bonus, if you add their MySpace page to your top 8, you'll get the chance to attend an exclusive DCUO party at the San Diego Comic-Con.

lol it's done by SOE? Hah, thanks, but I'll stick to CoH/V, at least until Diablo III and Warhammer Online come out.
its a shame that this is SOE... and that Marvel backed out of the Cryptic deal. Champions is still looking pretty nice though.
