Boom! Studios Turns Hate Into Pride At Comic-Con!

boom!.jpg

Goblin reported last week about Doug Manchester, owner of the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel in San Diego, and his controversial anti gay marriage donations.

Boom! Studios, in response, has turned their 3rd annual event, "Boom! Drink Up" into a gay pride party...did I mention that the party was, and still is, scheduled at the Grand Hyatt?

"BOOM! had previously announced a Drink Up at the Hyatt bar several weeks ago," said BOOM! Studios' Chip Mosher. "The Drink Up is our annual anniversary party that is open to fans and pros alike--no RSVP, no guest list. Last year was the first year we did it and we had a great time and a great turnout."

"When I found out that the owner of the Hyatt had given a large sum of money to fight gay marriage in California," continued Mosher, "we decided immediately the best way for us to protest was to make our party not just the the BOOM! Drink Up but the BOOM! Drink Up / Gay Pride Party!"

Controversy be damned, we'll be sure to report how it all shakes down!

Hanging in the lobby having a party at a bar that will require people SPENDING MONEY... puts cash in the hands of the person who turns that money towards fighting against gay rights.

The owner in question doesn't even reside at the hotel. It's merely a Hyatt location. He won't care if gay people spend green there - only be happy to have it.

This seems a bad move to me - or I am missing something?

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 I literally clapped my hands together and said OhMyGodYesssss when the friendly staff member at my regular shop held this book out to hand it to me. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung finally - finally - return to this title with a nine issue limited series. I will spare you paragraphs of pontification and cut to the chase: it's not just good, it's the best thing Marvel has going, period. Read on for the pontification and petty quibbles!...
