Weekly Wallpaper: Well, There's A Reliable Disappointment.

CB026098.jpg

Welcome to the home improvement wing of the Gay Gamer Castle. Mondays are all about sprucing up the everyday and that means a new desktop wallpaper for your computer!

This week's wallpaper comes from the film version of American Splendor. The long running series is an autobiographical look at Harvey Pekar's life and just how boring and mundane it is. He's a regular guy in a regular city with no real claims to fame. He's just a great writer and his honesty shines through on the page.

In 2003, the book was transformed into a film that broke genre conventions. It was half documentary and half staged drama. Both Pekar and his wife appeared in the film as themselves, but the drama scenes showcased Paul Giamatti and Hope Davis.

If you haven't yet, check out the film for a great look at a truly independent work of comics and one of the best films of 2003.

Remember, if you have a desktop or two that you love and want it spread among the masses, you can send it to me at Goblin@PinkKryptonite.com. I will be glad to spotlight it in an upcoming column.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
