Gather, Otaku! Presenting Manga-Nation!
Here we are, in the first installment of Manga-Nation! I thought it was about time that my fellow manga-lovers got their own separate release date calender. No more weeding through all those tights to get to your shojo! Here's some of the titles I'm looking at this week.
AURORA PUBLISHING INC
Tomcats GN
I need more yaoi in my life. The descriptor says it's about cat-boys who are on the run from the men in black. I can only assume hi jinx will ensue.
DARK HORSE
Gantz TP Vol 01
I remember seeing pieces of the anime awhile back. We'll see if the manga's more interesting.
DIGITAL MANGA
Great Place High School GN
It looks like a yaoi version of Cromartie High.
VERTICAL
Tezuka Dororo GN Vol 02
Whoops, it looks like I missed volume one of this series. I've been wanting to check it out since I saw the movie. Fingers crossed!
Notice a lot of volume one's in my selection? That's right, I'm trying to branch out a little. Get the full list after the jump.

LOL at the pic.
Dumb question but, is the King of Fighters comic still going on? Or is that like from China.
It's actually Korean. Thanks Wikipedia!
WTH, people really do update everything on there.
Thankee
"Tomcats" turned out to be barely shonen ai (the manga-ka belatedly acknowledged this herself in the afterword). This would be okay if the publisher hadn't charged the $2-more-than-their-"regular"-manga-in-order-to-keep-yaoi-out-of-underage-hands (and take advantage of what the market will bear) price for it. Actually, it reminded me of a somewhat less humorous, (mostly) more sketchily-drawn cousin of the TokyoPop manhwa (the Korean equivalent of manga) "Laya, the Witch of Red Pooh," which also features one or more relatively normal human beings--vaguely Maggie and Hopey-esque punk witches, in "Laya" 's case--living with wisecracking bipedal cats. Of course, the "cats" in "Tomcats" are actually catboys (and the occasional catgirl) whose main non-human characteristics are feline ears and tails, while the one in "Laya, the Witch of Red Pooh" looks like an actual cat walking on his hind legs wearing thigh-high boots (and smoking and drinking). Well, except when he occasionally turns human after drinking a potion.
Anyway, the two main human guys in "Tomcats" are boyfriends who live together, but so far the "more than friends" aspect of their relationship is visible only by virtue of the fact that the nominal protagonist is the only person (or cat) who can interpret the semi-mute Tora's unintelligible mutterings and gestures. He's also willing to skip town at a moment's notice with Tora and his household of catbeings when the men in black/yakuza begin to become too much of a nuisance.
Tora himself seems to have fallen in love at first sight with the other guy (whose name I forget), refusing to let go of his hand for several hours when one of the catboys first brings him to their house and becoming very depressed whenever he's gone for any length of time after they've moved to their new rural home. However, from what we're shown of their relationship from their first meeting on, it appears that so far they haven't even kissed.
The human guy whose name I forget apparently *has* slept with one of the catboys. However, judging by the meanderingly innocuous context, this seems likely to mean nothing more than that he let the catboy in question snuggle nonsexually with him under the covers like a real-life human being who lets his non-talking pets sleep on the bed. The characters are likeable and the story is mildly entertaining, but I didn't think it was worth the additional $2 yaoi tax that brought the price up to $12.99.
