Witchblade To Big Screen

witchblade178.gif

With Wanted heading to the big screen in June it seems Top Cow decided to sell yet another of their flagship titles to Hollywood. Variety is reporting that Witchblade will be headed to the big screen.

Considering the industry's track record with comic book adaptions featuring female leads I am going to remain cautiously optimistic.

I get the caution, but I wonder where the optimism comes from.

teeeheee - ummmmm - Top Cow will also produce with the studio they might make sure the franchise doesn't get flushed down the toilet. Fingers crossed.

I am a past fan of the book - things got way nutty in recent years which is why I dropped it. I also enjoyed the series on TNT. I would like to think if they get a kick butt kind of lead that doesn't only look like a supermodel and a director/writer who can string together a great plot with the material in the mythos it could work.

I liked the TNT series at first, but it got a little too occult-centric and went away from the detective aspect. I ended up not watching the second half of the series, but if the movie is more like the beginning then I'm definitely down.

Of course, I tend to worry about character that isn't a white, heterosexual male in superhero/comic book movies.

Witchblade's not exactly a "lead" as much as a pin up strategically placed in most panels of the comic.

See Danger Girl, Fathom...etc....

Goblin - That's actually it.

If the detective stuff plays out and she is gritty and determined I am down with it. But if they do to Witchblade the film what they did with the tv series adaption of Painkiller Jane or turn it into something along the line of Daredevil then color me annoyed.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
