Uncanny Lands A Milestone
We all know that Greg Land lightboxes his work. You can easily spot the recurring faces and body poses in his work. I've seen the same face on Phoenix, White Queen, half of the Squadron Supreme and all three of the Stepford Cuckoos. (And now Pixie, which is the most egregious misplacement, really.) However, that said, I do still like Land's art. It's smooth and polished and nice to look at. It's the ineffectual action movie and popcorn flick of the comic art world. Sure, it's derivative and nothing new, but it's shiny and all pretty.
And speaking of Greg Land, I've got some new art to show off! If you'll come way back with me to the bygone days of April 2008, you'll recall that I told you all about Alex Ross's painted cover for Uncanny X-Men #500. Well, I'm sure you know by now that just one cover is never enough. So in keeping with Variant Fever (the first outbreak since the near-Bubonic levels of death in the 90s), here's cover number two for this illustrious anniversary. Drawn by Land - and his myriad of "inspirations" - the cover depicts the X-Men as they'll be seen in coming months. Most teams are represented and their new location in San Francisco is the backdrop.
Again, it's polished and all together pretty tame, but if you hate Land's artwork then don't bother trying to think differently about this.

wtf? Why does Pixie get so much cover space?
>And now Pixie, which is the most egregious misplacement, really.
My thoughts exactly.
Also, I count four people on this cover in exactly the same pose as Thunderbird. Who is that guy with the jetpack... and who's that other guy with the other jetpack right behind him?
From brief inspection, the first guy kinda looks like Cyclops with a Jetpack..
The guy behind him's aura looks like Sunspot.
