The Cartoon Closet At A.E.

comicsartimg_3.jpg

After Elton has a great article up asking why there aren't more gay characters in newspaper comic strips. While it's not exactly the leading form of discourse in this country, it is a medium that millions of people tune into every day. The weekly strips can last for years and tell massive stories. And yet there are only a handful of gay characters, most of those only supporting or peripheral at best.

I was going to summarize and post snippets fo the article, but in all honesty it would be better for you to just read it yourself. It's a few pages, but talks about several aspects of the comic strip industry. It also actually answers some of the questions it raises and while the answers aren't what we want to hear, they're not exactly new either.

So head over to After Elton's The Cartoon Closet

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Wonder Woman #1 - #5 OK, so a couple of unkind reviews from me of late. Does that mean I hate the whole New 52? No, not at all. Does it mean that I only enjoy the new characters? Definitely not. Case in point: Wonder Woman is one of my favorite books of the relaunch. I think it's very good, with strong writing, an excellent ambience and fantastic art. Read on for why this reboot is the first time I've ever subscribed to Wonder Woman!...
