Ten-Hut, Soldier!

Some more post-Messiah Complex shuffling is coming up on April 2nd. New X-men is getting the axe and Young X-Men #1 springs from the ashes like an unwanted Jean Grey (or an even more unwanted Madelyn Pryor).

I'm a little saddened to see Julian (Hellion) is no longer a part of the cast. He was abrasive and kind of a jackass, but he was finally coming into his own character-wise. New X-Men would have worked if we had some more character moments and less swarms of random children dying. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the wholesale slaughter of mutant kids, but you have to break it up a bit.
The nifty cover to the side there is the variant cover by Brandon Peterson.

so first the series was called New Mutants, then it became X-Men Academy, then it became New X-Men, and now it's called Young X-Men?
Wow.
Nah, the killing stopped quite a few arcs back.
And NXM did work. It's just that Marvel is getting into the habit of changing a lot of good stuff for no real reason. NXM, Spiderman,... Or just sending it into limbo (Young Avengers anyone?)
NXM was by far my favorite Marvel book. Why? Because of the characters. The characters were great. Especially Vic. Yet another gay character soon to go into limbo.
The dying wasn't as severe after the first arc, but it's not like the kids were ever safe. Weren't there more deaths after the initial purge/firebombing?
Either way, New Mutants relied to much on melodrama and almost zero action. New X-Men was almost all action and no drama. We need a mix fo the two ESPECIALLY for the teenage X-Men book.
Here's hoping the third time's the charm - not counting New X-Men losing the "Academy X" after-title.
