Spider-Man Vs. Typeface

Spider-Kid.jpg

Sadly, no, this is not a treatise on the wonders of the syllabic villainy known as Typeface. Instead, this is to clue you all in on a wonderful series of articles discussing one of the most important yet overlooked aspects of comic books - the logo.

Letterer Todd Klein has a series of articles on his blog discussing the many logos that both he and others have created over the years. He usually takes a character (or single book, should the situation demand it) and compares and contrasts all of the logos throughout the years. Needless to say when he tackled the X-Men, there was much discussion to be had as there have been many X-books through the years, most with changing logos.

This month, the topic at hand is your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Coming tomorrow is the fifth and final part. Check out Todd's blog for his analysis of the logos for Spider-Man, Tarzan, Wonder Woman and many others.

Comic of the Week

Review: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 I literally clapped my hands together and said OhMyGodYesssss when the friendly staff member at my regular shop held this book out to hand it to me. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung finally - finally - return to this title with a nine issue limited series. I will spare you paragraphs of pontification and cut to the chase: it's not just good, it's the best thing Marvel has going, period. Read on for the pontification and petty quibbles!...
