Buffy Issue #12: Where Buffy Says - Wow

Well color me one VERY shocked, comic book reading, lesbian this week.
Don't get me wrong shocked is SO not a bad thing because this is a Whedon title. In fact one of the many things that makes the Whedon team great is how they always keep fans, whether they be watching or reading, on their toes.
Spoilers ahead! Be warned!

When we last left Buffy she was on a training mission with Satsu, one of the newly awoken Slayers. During said mission Buffy revealed in a rather comical way that she had figured out that said "junior" slayer was the one who broke the curse on her; you know, back in issue #3 when only the kiss of true love would wake Buffy. She tried to chase the girl off with a wonderful little speech that gave great insight into Buffy's feelings about how everyone who loves her either gets hurt or figures out there is something wrong with her.
The speech didn't work because it seems a little vampire hunting led to... the page from the book says it all.
Yep, Buffy did more than kiss a girl.
Written by Drew Goddard, who wrote the film Cloverfield as well as co-wrote the classic Buffy episode Conversations with Dead People, this issue is a wonderful mix of all the best elements of anything connected to the Buffy verse. There is comedy, including a Xander moment that caused me to drop the book in my lap as I laughed out loud. There is a great use of the shows mythos, including the return of not one but two characters from the television show. Best of all, there is set-up of what's to come.
So for my money this issue is a must read. All the best elements of an episode of Buffy in a handy little genius comic.
Oh and did I mention Buffy sleeps with a woman?
Heck, even the NY Times took notice in a piece that includes some great insight into the decision by the master himself, Joss Whedon.

Frater Mine by Sean McGrath and Juan Romera
I got this issue earlier today and was reading it at the local In N Out Burger. The people sitting near me must have wondering what the hell I was doing between all the gasps, laughter, and "HOLY FUCKING MOTHER OF GOD!"s.
:-o!!!
Go Buffy!
And I didn't put this in the review - because it didn't belong there - but how incredibly cool is Whedon for saying what he did about not needing to make it be a big issue (after school special thing) moving forward?
I was one who didn't get pissed over the Tara thing and simply saw it for what it brought to the show and I equally applaud this move as one that will add much depth to the future of the comic without having to overwhelm the comic.
Like life - it merely is what it is...
I haven't gotten it in the mail yet, but since this was already spoiled for me (Thanks New York Times >.<), let me add my own "Go Buffy!"
The more I've thought about this, the more it makes sense. We've seen from Issue 1 that Buffy has been not getting any for a damn long while, which ups the liklihood she would experiment or be up for trying something new. Add in that she and Satsu have formed a deeper bond after the last issue's fight with the Twilight, and you've got Buffy putting the B in Bisexual! :)
I gasped so loud everybody looked at me at barnes and noble. And then the laughing by everybody catching her made them look at me further. this has truly been the best issue since and completely felt tv-like. I LOVED THIS ISSUE
Can't wait. I just---- I can't wait!
