A Long And Winding Road: Toronto's Silver Snail

There is nothing worse for a comic book fan then being in a city, say on a vacation or for work, and finding you're unable to grab the latest issue of your favorites. For the last two years of my life I have faced that dilemma and it got me thinking how many great, large and small, comic shops I managed to find in that time.
For more you have to - JUMP...
My biggest resource was comicshoplocator.com. By just plugging in any US or Canadian zip code it gives a list of the stores nearby as well as contact information and their website address if they have one.
Another helpful site is yelp.com. Yelp covers just about everything a city offers. Just drop in the city, state or zip and what you are searching for and if people are talking about it then you will find it.
One such shop I found with the help of the Internet was Silver Snail Comics in Toronto, Canada. Located on Queen Street West, amongst a variety of different shopping options from second hand bookstores to small record stores, Silver Snail is two and a half floors of comics, action figures, and everything else a fanboy, or girl, could want. They have all the new releases for the week as well as items, such as action figures, that are more difficult to find in the states.
The one downside has more to do with the city then the store. I headed over on a Sunday when most stores in Toronto don't open until noon, including the major shopping malls such as Eaton Centre.
It wasn't that bad though. When I arrived I found a line to get in which meant it had to be a great place to grab what I needed. While waiting I wasn't the least bit bored as the front of the store is painted with some of the greatest heroes and villains in comic book history. To learn more about Silver Snail visit their website and if you are in Toronto drop by, t's worth the trip.
So what else is out there for comic lovers to discover on the road? Is there a comic shop in your city that you think the rest of us might want to know about? Time to share our collective local pride for the folks who sell us what we love.
I will be covering other stores that I have found in my travels, as will the rest of the staff. If any of our readers have stores they think we should cover drop an email and tell us about your local store. Or if you don't feel comfortable writing a review yourself then simply email us about the shop and we will happily put it together. For the long time collectors we hope these will serve as another resource for stores around world and for any newbies who might drop by Pink Kryptonite we hope they will provide some motivation to lead people to their first comic book shop.

Ah, I love Silver Snail! As a Torontonian it's one of my greatest resources. Mind-blowing selection, and pretty cheap compared to other stores.
When I lived in New York I stopped in at Midtown Comics every Wednesday to pick up my books.
But since moving away, I've just kept up a subscription through their online service. It's remarkably easy to use and free (except for shipping). And all the books come bagged and boarded.
The only downside is that I get them on Friday instead of Wednesday (and even worse, if there's a delay, cause of holidays, I don't usually get them until the next Monday).
When visiting Toronto for Pride Week two years ago (wow, that long already?) I made it a habit to stop in and see this very shop every day! It really was a great place to escape that strange Canadian Heat.
My room mate/best friend works there on weekends. I'm basically there every Saturday picking up my comics.
