Webcomic Spotlight: Shortpacked

shortpacked.JPG

You may have heard of Shortpacked already, as it's actually pretty well known. The comic stars the employees of a toy store and generally focuses on collectables as a large source of humor, often Transformers, specifically. If you haven't been reading it however, it also features a main character who is gay, and had a coming out of sorts during the series. The current storyline looks to be headed in the direction of his going out on a date with another gay nerd.

Not to be a nit-picker, but Ethan and Thad are geeks, not nerds. Nerds are those who excel academically, while geeks are those with a sizable knowledge of a particular subject. You can be a geek about anything, really. For instance, there are Star Wars geeks, who remember infinitesimal details of a particular jedi they liked. This is where the phrase "geeking out" comes from, which is a situation in which a geek goes on and on about their particular geek subject, thereby proving themselves to be geeks. I guess you could say Nerds are just Geeks about school, lol.

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Hey Look Who Showed Up! It's Northstar! Finally! I'm now convinced that I have the mutant power to start talking about something right before it happens, as I was talking about Northstar just last week. I'll call it my 'Foot in Mouth' powers. Anyway, for those who haven't grabbed books this week, I highly recommend you pick up Uncanny X-men #508, as it brings Northstar back to the team. We discover he's been living it up as a famous snowboarder in Canada, with a boyfriend apparently. Wolverine recruits him and his sister for the team. There is some fantastic dialogue that I won't spoil at this point since it just came out, but it's very well written, so thanks should go out to Mr. Matt Fraction. Based on what happens I have a sneaking suspicion that it was written to clear up some of the angst surrounding Northstar's treatment in the last few years. So now we've seen Northstar with a love interest, can a kiss be far behind? Will it make it in time for Pride month? We'll see. Go read it!...
