Strange Resemblance: A.T.M. & Big Daddy

If you never read the Image miniseries Alternation, well, you didn't really miss much unless you're a fan of nifty artwork. But, really, the writing was pretty much drek. However, I recently picked up the series in order to find some steampunk art references, and I was entertained by some of the things I found within it. While the overall concept -America is invaded by Germany during the Civil War and a group of freedom fighters led by Sam Clemens now fights against the Evil Empire which arose- was certainly intriguing, I found the Automat Tin Men to be even more interesting. The A.T.M. is pictured at the top, and I thought it looked more than a little like the Big Daddy characters from Bioshock.
While the final renderings are a bit different in terms of being a lot bigger and less organic looking, the sketches I found in the back of Alternation #2 were a lot closer to what our favorite guardians of the Little Sisters ended up looking like. I'm sure it's just one of those strange coincidences, but it sure is a weird one... especially since the comic was published back when Bioshock had just started to make its way into the public's awareness.
