Secret Invasion Variant Cover Revealed

secretinvasionvariant.jpg

I'm pretty sure that I've already mentioned how yawn-inducing the whole upcoming Skrull Invasion of the Marvel Universe is. I mean, don't get me wrong, an entire race of sinister alien shapeshifters? It's a cool concept, but I've never seen marvel actually do much that's interesting with them. And, honestly, why the bloody hell are the Skrulls so obsessed with taking over our backwater planet?

Well, apparently we're going to have that question answered by the upcoming Secret Invasion. Or something. Marvel's all hyped-up about the fact that there's a variant cover for the first issue to promote the moronic slogan "Who Do You Trust?" Me? I think I'll pass and keep on reading issues of The Boys instead.

Well, anyway, the comic's hitting the stands on April 2 and will be going for $3.99. Hey, now that I think about it: maybe a comic about Skrulls can shapeshift into something worth spending my on...

The Skrulls just seem to be a huge crutch for Marvel. That really seems to be their only purpose. It's easy to just write things off by saying, "omfg a Skrull did it!" The whole idea of this invasion is equally lame and just seems really easy. Who do I trust? Why should I care? Honestly, shape shifting as a plot device is about is interesting and challenging as the old, "a wizard did it," or, "it was all a dream."

yeah I've been struggling to find any kind of excitement over this event, but it's just not happening. I'm completely not interested in finding out who's a skull and the like...it just seems so corny and so...cheeseball 70s Marvel. Look a communist...I mean...erm...skrull!

Yawn

"Oh Lois, you SO don't want to know!"

Comic of the Week

Review: Avengers: The Children's Crusade #1 I literally clapped my hands together and said OhMyGodYesssss when the friendly staff member at my regular shop held this book out to hand it to me. Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung finally - finally - return to this title with a nine issue limited series. I will spare you paragraphs of pontification and cut to the chase: it's not just good, it's the best thing Marvel has going, period. Read on for the pontification and petty quibbles!...
