Phoenix To X-Men: Oh Hai, I'm Back! Why Are You Surprised?

Over at CBR they just received this image from Marvel with the words Stay tuned...
It appears that Professor X's sister mummudrai, Cassandra Nova (last seen in Astonishing X-Men trying to possess newly minted X-Woman Hisako) is involved...the Brood also appear and I can't really make out that person on the Phoenix's right hand side...anyone care to take a guess?
What is Marvel up to? I've kind of liked the fact that Jean has stayed dead for so long (about 4 years in real time). I like the dynamic that has evolved between Scott and Emma in her absence, and it would be horrible if it was taken away by her return.
What do you guys think? Good idea? Bad idea?

Couldnt agree with you more, I hope she stays dead. A cameo is ok, but the relationship between emma and scott is way more interesting. And though the Logan/Jean/Scott love triangle is hot, its been done to death.
I read almost every X-title from '85 to '97. After getting caught in an awful Wikipedia circle one day, I would prefer to think that all the titles ended then. But I can't say I'm surprised about Jean (and a little happy).
You know...
At least her name is Phoenix and so she at least she has some sort of precedent for dying and coming back to life a lot.
I knew this would happen and I'm quite excited about it. As my fave, it's good to have her back.
Who wants to bet that Jean is returning as the mutant baby from Messiah Complex?
Bleh.
The biggest problem here? Every X book is tied together so closely you got to buy all 50 of them to know what's going on... that or spend 20 hours a month on Wikipedia trying to do some research.
So even if I gave a crud about the pheonix being all pheonixy and doing what pheonixes do (which incidently makes me not care if she dies or lives because any death by her is not any kind of heroic sacrifice) I wouldn't be able to keep up with it all because I do not want to read the "New X Attack Squad Children to get a plot point.
And now these tie in series are getting to the point where there are no individual issues, it's all part of Messiah or Emperor or what have you. They might as well remove all the titles of every X book and just call them by whatever series is going on at that time.
@ Goblin
oh please no, the whole "I was raised in an alternate timeline/dimension thing" so I can spring full formed from the head of Zeus, it's overused. Guh, alot of the new X plotlines are not grabbing me, however recently Ultimate X-men really has me interested (and New X-men, post M-day and pre-Young X-men).
>oh please no, the whole "I was raised in an alternate timeline/dimension thing" so I can spring full formed from the head of Zeus, it's overused.
Now there's an idea.
Maybe she'll explode out of Xavier's head while he's in a coma from being shot.
;-D
Yeah, this has since been confirmed as a cover for Legacy (the series that has Xavier looking back at stuff from the X-men's past?).
Over-reaction FTW?
Although obviously they'll bring her back eventually. I don't see the problem myself really. I always liked Jean. I just hope they'll keep her away from both Cyclops and Wolverine the next time she comes back. Let her be without those two for a while.
"X-Men come back more than Jesus."

I am deeply, DEEPLY gladdened by Nexus's comments that this is a cover for a flashback ish. I really, really, REALLY enjoy a world without a Phoenix. Not only was she never used properly, but Emma Frost just seems to be a better foil for Cyclops. The fact that, even though she's reformed, she still thinks a little like the White Queen she used to be is a good counterpoint to Cyclops's heroic, often boy-scoutish demeanor. In short, the Quarterback doesn't need his high school sweetheart back. He needs the dangerous, foxxy chick. XD
