Marvel To Fans: Zomg Communism Is Still Scary! No? What About Illegal Aliens? Get It? Hello?

Et tu Jean?

Marvel released its latest promotional image for the uberly-hyped Skrull Invasion this summer.

The skrulls can be any of your trusted friends. ANYONE! BE AFRAID!!!!....

Meh...not so much. I really don't see what the big deal is behind the commie-inspired skrull invasion that Marvel has planned. I mean, they're pretty much the grunts of the Marvel Universe and have been defeated over and over and over....you get my point. You know what would be really scary? If they were neo-sentinels! Oh that's right, that already happened...back in 1996 during the Operation Zero Tolerance crossover >.<

Does anyone find this Summer Spectacular interesting?

I agree, the whole Skrull thing is thoroughly boring. Marvel in general just seem to rehash the same old stuff. Has Xavier woken up yet?

Well they've just been caught of guard because being the reactionary editorial staff they happen to be, Marvel was unprepared for DC to come up with a way to keep a an "event" going for a whole year... three actually.

So now they're pumping out events as quick as they can get them together.

I'm cautiously optimistic about it, actually. While the Skrulls have forever been the whipping boy of Marvel's space opera, I've always thought they had potential. "Secret Invasion" will hopefully rectify that and bring them into the big leagues.

Hell, Super Skrull was a badass during the first Annihilation War and his limited series was actually quite good.

Here's hoping they don't squander my good will like they did with "Messiah Complex."

You know, if you're still looking for more writers, you might want to get some people who read Marvel.
All I'm getting from the current Pink Kryptonite writers is very strong anti-Marvel sentiments.
Nothing wrong with you having your own opinion obviously, but it would be nice not to have rants at every coverage of Marvel news.
Just a thought.

I love Marvel. I'm a huge fan of Marvel. I read Marvel. (See my Generation X/The Sandman post from a while back.) And maybe it's that love that is making me so reactionary to the news that has been coming out lately. I used to think that Marvel could do no wrong, but as I have started to read more that's out there in other comics, I see the potential that Marvel has. One More Day was the tipping point for me. It's almost like that feeling you get when you realize that your parents aren't right all the time and that they are, in fact, human and prone to weaknesses.

I can't speak for DC because that was BoT's cup of tea, but with new writer Oraclechele we hope to keep things fair and unbiased for Marvel and DC news.

As for all the other publishers, don't worry, we'll be covering them as well. We have a lot of fun stuff cooking up for you guys in the upcoming weeks.

I apologize, Nexus, if our posts were coming off as anti-Marvel, as I've said, it's anything but. We'll work on dialing it down a notch and view things from a more objective perspective (with our own opinions sprinkled in, of course).

Please feel free to send me any comments, suggestions, or ways to improve the site: jonostarsmore@gaygamer.net

to clarify: fair and unbiased in the sense that all companies will be represented as equally as possible. Everything is open to be commented on. If DC makes a bone head move, we'll comment on it...the same goes for Marvel. It's up to you, the readers, to decide if it is your cup of tea or not. But you guys already knew that, we have some of the most knowledgeable readers around!

Comic of the Week

Northstar's Boyfriend Coming In January! You guys may recall I was a bit cranky about Northstar and his lack of lovin' about a year and a half ago. In fact, at the time, I issued a challenge to Marvel to get him a kiss by June 2009 or I would declare him not really gay. I have not forgotten about this. However, when the X-men moved to San Francisco this year, we were teased with the existence of what looked to be Northstar's boyfriend (and manager), so I delayed judgment until we could see more. Since then, Northstar hasn't had a lot of major appearances, as there have been about a thousand major crossover events in the Marvel universe in the last six months, and each one tends to disrupt the normal storyline for most books, including the many X-books. So I waited. Our patience seems to have been rewarded! Artist Tim Fish revealed on his blog that his upcoming story in Nation X #2 (which comes out in Jan.) is a story about Northstar, and will feature Kyle, his boyfriend in an 8-page story. I'm not sure if an actual kiss is in it, but it's implied that there is some lovin' going on. Check out some sketches of Northstar, Kyle, and Aurora below, and we'll keep you up to date when we get closer to Jan. NATION X #2 1/6/10 [TimFishWorks]...
