Prism Comics Interviews Perry Moore

perrymooreportrait.jpg

We all know Perry Moore: he's the executive producer of the Narnia movies, as well as the author of Hero, and everything he touches seems to turn to gold. We all know Tommy Roddy, too (if you don't, then you should): he's the creator of Pride High, the LGBT-oriented comic about a superhero high school (he's also a San Francisco native, so we love him over here even more).

Moore and Roddy recently sat down and chatted on the phone, whereupon Moore explained the motivation behind the book, what it was like growing up gay in the 1980s, and a few other topics. Hit the link to listen to the interview itself.

Huh? What was that? Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I was too busy planning out my entire future with Surfer Boy there... *dreamy sigh*

He's hot and all, but Hero stunk.
It reads like self-insertion fanfics (the lowest of all written word).
The whole plot is utter tripe and the characters are a bunch of blatant rip-offs.
This film version better never see the light of day.

I agree with Nexus. Hunky though Perry Moore might be, Hero fell flat. Good in places, damn clunky in others. And it felt so oddly outdated throughout, with how people react to the main character's sexuality. I couldn't help but wonder if Moore just re-wrote his own life story with everybody turned into superheroes. With some rewriting, however, I think a movie version could be doable.

Actually. . .

I just finished it last night and I really couldn't disagree more.

The thing that I loved about the book was that it -was- cliche. It was a comic book in novel format and read exactly like that.

(the characters being modeled on the DC universe was brilliant btw)

Moore didn't try to disguise anything, he told a story, and he did a great job.

I knew exactly what was gonna happen at all times but that only made me bounce on the couch more and squeal and scream at the heros -because I felt for them-.

Also, hate to say it but he's got one more book published than you. If you don't like it and think you can do better, than go out and do it! Cuz man would I like some fun lit like this to chow on.

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
