LGBT Character Of The Week: Tasmanian Devil
For those that like their guys hairy, this weeks character hails from the DC Universe. Tasmanian Devil, shown here beating up Green Lantern, is Hugh Dawkins. Hugh was born a metahuman with the ability to turn into a supernaturally large and intelligent Tasmanian Devil, in a fashion similar to a werewolf. An alternate origin has jokingly been offered, claiming that Hugh's mother was a 'were' Tasmanian Devil who raised him in a Tasmanian Devil cult, which gave him a Tasmanian Devil amulet after selling his soul to a Tasmanian Devil and injecting him with a radioactive Tasmanian Devil musk from a race of alien Tasmanian Devils which gave him his powers. While Hugh is a pacifist, his alter ego of the Tasmanian Devil is aggressive and bestial.
Hugh is indeed from Tasmania, and he originally worked there as a solo hero until he joined the Global Guardians. He has also in the past been a member of the Justice League, but his most recent appearance (Green Lantern #15, Dec '06) places him back with the Global Guardians, although he was under mind control at the time.
