Drawn To Life

You know, I think I can honestly say that I never expected to write a story about anything related to the Archie comics' universe, but this was too cute to pass up. Leonora Martin, a librarian at an elementary school in upstate New York, has wound up making an appearance in Betty & Veronica because she won a raffle.

A year ago [Ms. Martin] went to a conference of the New York State Library Association. Archie Comics Chairman and Publisher Michael Silberkleit and Vice President Fred Mausser also attended the meeting in Saratoga Springs and raffled off an appearance in one of their comics. Proceeds from the raffle went to the New York State Library Association endowment.

The comic features its titular characters on a tour of colleges when they get stranded in East Greenbush, NY, and Ms. Martin takes them into Bell Top Elementary School (where she actually works) and teaches them about different library programs. Both Martin and her elementary school also appear on the comic's cover.

Comic of the Week

Review: Stormwatch #1 Stormwatch #1, the first of DC's new 52 to feature LGBT characters (before the reboot, at least) is out to add a new cosmic dimension to the post-Flashpoint universe. There isn't much to be said for our beloved broship yet (though the last page shows a handshake between Apollo and Midnighter and promises a "Big Bang"), but the issue is a great gauge for whether or not you'll want to stick with the series to see the romance purportedly unfold....
