Ask-a-Fanboy: Value decisions

Well Fruit Brute let me back for a second edition, so I guess I didn't offend anyone. I'll try harder this week...

Hi Mr. Blunder,

For my 21st, my parents have agreed to go half-ways on the console of my choice. The problem is, I can't decide between XBox 360 Elite or a Wii.

Wii is cheaper, high in-demand, and if i manage to purchase one in time for my birthday i will be able to reserve Smash Bros Brawl in time for Christmas (hopefully)- and it is something I can play with the whole family. I've played it once before, and I find it amazing and cute- and I have a DS... in case they ever decide to do something other than Pokemon as a Wii/DS crossover.

Xbox 360 Elite has recently lowered it's price, which is good, however it is still pricey despite being worth it for the hard-drive space. I already own Gears of War by accident (friend left it over after moving away), and the illusive thrill of Bioshock possibly in my living room would be neat, however i fear the red rings of death being inevitable.

Please help me make a decision! I value opinions! I'm gay for both!

First of all let's get one thing clear. The first thing you do on your 21st birthday is to get so incredibly smashed that you don't know who you woke up next to and/or puke and/or get your stomach pumped. Preferably all three. Try tequila, it works for most people. Personally, I drink absinthe, but that's advanced and I don't want to hurt you. It (like most boys) will come in time.

Second, I was all set to tell you to get the Wii (I've not stopped playing with my Wii since I got it). Then Bioshock happened. So I too am torn.

Ergo, here is my suggestion. The 360 elite is USD 479 and 1996's black. Since white is the new pink which is the new orange which is the new navy which is the new black. You want a white console. Get one of the new HDMI out 360 premiums for $350 AND a $250 Wii. This is only $121 more than the elite, and you should be able to talk you parents into it. Then you have both consoles and at a later date you can get a larger HDD. Trust me, you won't miss the 120GB initially.

Who has Bat-Man yet to have a comic cross over with? Only one he hasn't done if Buffy, and I bet as you type your response they're cutting a deal.

I wanted to ask Whedon and company myself, but everytime I called Mutant Enemy, somehow it rang through to Waynecorp. I wonder what that's all about. Yes, Batman has been in a lot of crossovers, but I think that merely reflects the appeal of the character. Plus he's a badass, has always had a cute boyfriend/ward (whatever) and looks good in and out of tights.

Given Square-Enix's recent drive to create "polymorphic content", they've been trying to make the Final Fantasy franchise pop up in all sorts of new media (movies, collectibles, tattoos for fat chicks, etc). If Square got the desire to extend one of their games (doesn't have to be FF) into the form of American-style comic books, which game would you like to see and why? With your extensive knowledge of comics, who would you like to see on the writing and illustration teams and why? Is there any particular direction you'd like the comics to go?

I think the clear choice for a Square-based comic for me would be Chrono Trigger. The world and backstory lends itsself to serialization well, and could remain fairly open-ended. But now is where it gets hard. I have a penchant for Gaiman/Moore style storytelling, as is well known, but artistically I think a series based on the Chrono Trigger world could have multiple artists for different time-frames. Norm Breyfogle perhaps for prehistoric times. Joe Phillips would be excellent for contemporary times. Dave McKean for distant future/time-stream settings. Romita Jr. for the dystopian future.

Now that I answered your question though, the BEST choice for a video-game comic is Skies of Arcadia. Floating islands, sky piracy. MMMMMMMMmmmmmm. Marc Andreyko to write it, and Yoshitaka Amano must be the artist.
